This thread follows up on the feature request posted earlier by @DonnyBerger in Add “lock and unlock” as an action to the Tapo DL110. As you may know, Tapo smart door lock has supported locking via Smart Actions. Based on community feedback, we’ve noticed that some users have expressed interest in also being able to unlock their doors through automation.

To consolidate interest and gather specific use cases around this request, I’ve created this dedicated post. If you would like to see this feature implemented, please:

  • Vote to show your support.

  • Comment to describe how you would use the “unlock” skill in Tapo Smart Actions.

A quick note: While I cannot speak on behalf of the product team (though I will certainly ask), I guess the main reason this feature hasn’t been added yet is security-related — for example, to prevent accidental or unnoticed unlocking. What are your thoughts on this?

I understand that clicking the “Smart Button S200B” to open the door could lead to accidental touches and unintentional opening, but when I think about it, people would use these buttons at a height around shoulder level (speaking from personal experience), so for that reason, I think it’s unlikely users would touch it unintentionally.

To address this security flaw, I’m not sure if it’s possible to restrict the door-opening button (e.g., Tapo DL110) to require a double-tap only; this would prevent accidental touches, and current users would be happy with the change.

I would use the Smart Action to lock and unlock the door as follows: Unlock by double-tapping the S200B button, and lock by tapping the same button once. I would also use the door sensor to close the door (DL110 sensor) when it detects that the door is closed. I currently use this mechanism since the “Close Door” Smart Action has been implemented. Thank you for considering this request and for listening to the community. I (and many other users) find this extremely valuable and would love to see this feature included in a future update.
