T300 and H200 effective range test does not work
T300 and H200 effective range test does not work
I have four T300s connected to an H200. I am pretty sure that when I bought them some 4-5 months ago I must have successfully performed the effective range test on them.
The problem is that when I try to do the effective range test by pressing the button on the T300 now, and I tried 3 of the 4 T300s I have, nothing happens on my H200. No voice prompt, no led action of any kind.
For testing purposes I had the T300s 1 meter (or less) away from the H200. On one of T300 I even pulled the batteries out and checked them out. Then I put some water on the sensor and the alarm and the app notification were triggered. The H200 does report 4 T300s connected with a WiFi signal strength high, so that looks good. Playing the ringtone on the H200 works fine.
The procedure seems as simple as it can be, just press the button once... What can I be missing here? Thank you.

I reported the issue originally a few months ago and then, I am pretty sure, I successfully performed the effective range test once they pushed the new firmware to my device. However right now, as reported by others, it does not work again. More interestingly, it looks like the hub and sensor firmwares have not changed...

I just bought two T300s and paired them with my H200, but the range test isn't working. I've created an automation between the T300 and H200, which works fine, but I'd like to be able to test the range with a button, as I plan to place one of the T300s in the basement. The H200 firmware is: 1.7.1 Build 20260515 rel.61602 Both T300 firmwares are: 1.7.0 Build 230628 rel.194748. I tried downloading a newer version, but it's not available.
Neither of your devices has the latest firmware (Latest version: H200: 1.6.5 or 1.7.5; T300: 1.9.0). Please check if you have any problems controlling the H200 remotely -- for example, when your phone is on the cellular data network.
Try to restart the hub and your router, then check the firmware again.

@PGPGP What's the firmware version of your H200 and T300?

I've got a new firmware for H200 that might help with this issue, if you would like to try it, send me a private message with the Mac address of your Tapo H200.
Before the Upgrade
(1) Please be sure you have read the Beta Test Agreement before upgrading the Pre-release firmware!
(2) How to update the firmware of the Tapo devices on the Tapo App
(3) Firmware downgrade is not supported. When a new official version is released, updating it will overwrite the beta version.

@PGPGP The one I have is the latest official version 1.7.5, which started rolling out a while ago. You can check if your H200 has received this update. If it has, go ahead and update directly. If not, I can provide it to you manually, just follow the instructions I mentioned earlier -- send me your device’s MAC address.
If the new firmware still doesn't help, then it's time to contact support team for further investigation.

Like I said before, my H200 runs 1.7.1 Build 20260515 rel.61602, which seems rather old comapred to 1.7.5, but attempts to update it say that the current firmware is up to date. This is somewhat weird by itself. Why is Tapo keeping me (and likely others) a few versions behind...?
So, how do I get the latest version?
Thank you.

As mentioned, 1.7.5 is the new firmware that just started rolling out recently. New firmware is typically released in phases, which means not all devices get it right away. The rollout is expanded gradually over time.
If you’d like early access to the new firmware, which might help with this issue, send me a private message with your device’s MAC address. Alternatively, you can reach out to technical support to see if they have any advice for this specific problem. Contact Technical Support
