Model: Tapo D235
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: It says all my devices are up to date

Hi

I have installed a new Hub so I needed to connect my D235 Doorbell/Camera to the new Hub.

I have managed to do it on my Tapo p110 sockets, I had to remove them from my Tapo App, and reinstall them to the new Hub.

But I'm having problems with the D235 Doorbell/Camera.

I have removed the D235 Doorbell/Camera from the Tapo App, but trying to get in connected again as a new device and it is a problem.

When I turn on/power up the D235 Doorbell/Camera.I get a red blinking light. The app suggests I should get a Red & Green blinking light. Which i don't .

So it then gives me an option for when its not blinking Red & Green to press & hold the sync/reset button, until it blinks red, which already is !

The options then are LED Off, and charge the battery. Which it is already charged. Or "Already reset", which then takes me back to the needing a Red & Green blinking light. Which it isn't doing. Still Red only !!

Any ideas so I can connect to the new Hub. I'm assuming it should be possible ??

Regards

Happyonetwo

This is the reply I received from the Tapo support team and it worked.

So a big thanks to the team (Rhalp) at Tapo

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience with us. I understand that you're trying to reconnect your Tapo D235 doorbell to a new hub, but after removing it from the app, the doorbell is only showing a blinking red LED instead of the red and green blinking light needed for setup mode, and pressing the reset button isn't changing this state.

A blinking red LED only (without green) on your D235 typically indicates a battery or power-related issue that's preventing the doorbell from entering proper setup mode. Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

For the Battery-Powered D235:
1. Ensure the battery is fully charged • connect it to the original adapter and charge it completely before attempting setup.
2. Remove the battery, then reinsert it securely to ensure proper connection.
3. If possible, test with another battery to rule out a faulty battery.
4. Remove the SD card (if any) and reboot the doorbell.
5. Perform a factory reset while the device is charged:
   • Press and hold the SYNC/RESET button for 5 seconds until the LED behavior changes.
6. After reset, you should see the red and green blinking LED indicating it's ready for setup.

Once you get the red and green blinking LED:
Follow the in-app instructions to reconfigure the doorbell, or refer to this setup video guide for the D235: https://youtu.be/UyHsT673zks

If the setup fails, refer to this troubleshooting guide: https://www.tapo.com/faq/92/

If the issue persists, please provide us a screenshot of the error message you are getting and let us know what model your Hub is.

Thanks for your cooperation and patience.

I'm glad to know that your concern has now been resolved! However, I should clarify one point to avoid confusion for anyone else reading this thread -- the red blinking light on Tapo D235 is not related to battery level, instead:

  • Slow red blinking means the doorbell is connecting to Wi‑Fi
  • Fast red blinking indicates the doorbell is resetting

More details can be found in the product's manual. Take the EU version, for example: Tapo D235(EU)_V1_Quick Installation Guide
