Firmware Update Tapo T315 Violates European Consumer Law
Hi everyone and Tapo Support team,
I am writing this post to express my extreme disappointment regarding a recent firmware/app update that has artificially capped the Tapo T315 Smart Temperature Monitor at 0°C.
Before this update, my sensor successfully monitored my freezer at -22°C, and the data was accurately reported to the app. Now, the sensor completely stops updating and gets stuck at 0°C, rendering it completely useless for cold environments like freezers or outdoor monitoring.
This software limitation directly violates TP-Link's official product specifications. According to the official Tapo T315 marketing and product pages, the device features a:
- Temperature Range: -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F)
- Furthermore, your official documentation explicitly states:
"The E-ink screen only displays temperature from 0 to 50°C. If the readings go beyond the display range, you can check the temperature on the Tapo app."
By forcing an update that limits the app and hub data to 0°C, TP-Link has actively downgraded a purchased product and removed a core feature that was explicitly guaranteed at the time of sale. Under European consumer law, removing advertised functionalities via a software update constitutes a non-compliant product.
I have already filed an official non-conformity complaint with my retailer Bol.com. TP-Link failed to respond to feedback in the app, addressing this issue.
To the development team: Please disconnect the smart hub/app data logging from the physical E-ink screen limitation immediately. Customers bought a sensor that measures down to -20°C, and we expect the software to report it, exactly as promised on your website.
Is there a beta firmware available to roll back this highly counterproductive update? I look forward to a swift response and a solution.
