Tapo TC70 failing to perform firmware update

Model: TC70
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.9 Build 231019 Rel.33508n

I have a Tapo TC70 Camera that is failing to perform a firmware update.

Model: TC70

Hardware Version: 1.0

Current Firmware Version: 1.3.9 Build 231019 Rel.33508n

The Tapo App reports a New Firmware Version: 1.3.17 Build 260112 Rel.54862n

It starts the update, but then reports “Failed to update, Please try later” in the App.

I have tried rebooting the TC70 and my router, but it still fails to update.

Any help to resolve the issue would be very much appreciated.

Hi,
Typically, you can refer to the following instructions to troubleshoot when fail to update the camera's firmware.
What can I do if Tapo/Kasa Smart Devices fail to update the firmware?

In your situation, you can try to enable a hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, factory reset the camera, configure it with another phone, connect it to the hotspot Wi-Fi, and then check if you can update the firmware successfully.

Best Regards

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt response.

I tried removing the device, hard resetting the camera and then setting it up again, but I get the same issue with the firmware update.

I will try the method using a hotspot Wi-Fi, but all other Tapo devices (cameras, sockets, lights) that I have are updating fine on the same Wi-Fi network.

Since the TC70 is quite an old device and it is working fine at the moment, I can run without the latest update, but I was just hoping to update it for completeness.

Hi,
Thanks for the update and for trying those steps.
Given that you’ve already performed a reset and reconfiguration, and that other Tapo devices on the same network are updating without issue, this suggests the problem may be specific to this device or its update process.
In this case, it’s recommended to contact the support team for further assistance. They can help check whether the device requires a deeper diagnosis.

Best Regards,
