Model: HS220
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.5.11

I just installed the dimmer today. Worked great all day. No issues. Full bright to dim - no problem.
Then, as I was getting ready for bed, it wouldn't turn off. The indicator lights would show that it was dimming and the "off"

indicator would come on but the light was still full bright.

Restarted the switch. Still no. But noticed the switch was a little warm.

Reset the switch. Still won't turn off.

Turned off the circuit breaker, took off the switch plate and grabbed the switch to pull it out of the wall and it was HOT!

It's wired up correctly.

After turning the CB back on, it seems to be working again, but I'm very concerned about the box being hot. Has anyone else had this issue?

@EmptyAxlee Chandaliers with multiple bulbs can exceed the maxim rating for the switch https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202002/20200219/HS220(US)_datasheet%201.0.pdf: 150W LEDs or 300W incandescent.  If it's below those maximums and overheating to the point of lockup I'd exchange it quickly.

@EmptyAxlee

How about the room temperature and what kind of light you connected to this HS220, how about its maximum load?

Do you mean after you turn off then on the circuit breaker, the HS220 works properly? How about the temperature of it at that time?

@Solla-topee

The room temp was about 68°

The light is a chandelier type light. Standard - nothing special. Worked fine before I put the switch on it.

Yes, after I reset the CB, it seemed to work fine. With the light off overnight, the box cooled. Seems that the box only gets hot when the switch is on.

@MikeP

This looks like this is the issue - never noticed that. I'll have to drop the bulb wattage.
Thanks!

@jefb yes, I believe that was the problem. I put in a GE Smart Switch and it was able to handle the load. However it still gets a little warm because it is toward the high end of its rating, but it doesn't get scorching hot like the TP Link switch did.
