Tapo P105 (US/JP) Ver 1.0

Description

The mentioned models require local environment for firmware upgrades during specific firmware versions; remote firmware updates are not supported.

If your Tapo smart plug falls within the mentioned criteria, and encounters difficulties in firmware updates after receiving an update notification (e.g. Showing "Downloading" after clicking "Update" in the app, then switching back to "Update" without progress, or displaying an error like "Update Failed"), here are some suggestions to address this situation.

Tips for Firmware Local Upgrade

1. Internet access is required for firmware updates.

2. Make sure your mobile device and Tapo smart plug are connected to the same WiFi network (same subnet).

3. Turn off VPN, ad-blocking apps (e.g. AdGuard), or any other Apps that could disrupt the local discovery of the smart plug by Tapo App.

4. Ensure the smart plug is manageable with Tapo App.

Solution

In response to the local upgrade feature of the device, the technical team provides an optimized version of the Tapo app. After trying the above suggestions and if your smart plug still cannot be updated successfully, you can refer to the following information and submit a software trial application to us.

I just purchased P105 and updated the firmware to 1.4.0 Build 20231017 Rel. 33876. At first I cannot create new schedule, I then reset the device to factory default then I am able to create new schedules but it is not triggering the On/Off schedules. I also have P100 which is working perfectly before but since I updated the firmware to 1.4.0 it has the same problem with my P105 which is not firing the On/Off schedules. Also on both devices when I try to start a "Timer" when I press the "Start" I am getting this message: "Error: Please try again" and same error when I try again. I can turn it On/Off from the app but the schedules are not firing.

  @MikeVG08

It appears that the device's time discrepancy is likely causing the issue. Firmware updates necessitate device rebooting, and it's possible that after the restart, your device failed to synchronize time from the NTP server, resulting in problems with schedule creation and functionality.

We suggest trying to restart your router. If the issue persists, you can change your router's DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

  @Wayne-TP this issue only happened when I updated to the new firmware. I have been using my P100 for 2 years without problem. When I got a new P105 I just learned that there is new firmware that's why I also updated my P100.

The 10 secs long press to reset the device worked but I have to do it everyday (repeating to add schedule/timer every time I reset the device) to make the timer work on P100 and P105 that has the same firmware update. I tried restarting my router but I cannot change my DNS.

  @ironeek11 I think the new firmware has a bug. The issue just started when I updated to the new version.

  @ironeek11 What's the hardware and firmware version of your P100? Can you try to power cycle the plug and restart the router? Does it help?

Are you able to control the plug remotely when using the cellular network?
