Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.8 Build 20190403 Rev. 43515

 Hey All,

Just found a devwiki page that says OpenWRT is supported on the Deco M9 plus... Has anyone tried this? Or should I be the guinea pig?

https://wikidevi.com/wiki/TP-LINK_Deco_M5

Let me know!

Regards,

Matt

@matmatician

Just a few things to keep in mind if you attempt this.

1.  TP-Link does not support devices running 3rd party firmware.

2.  As this is a alteration of the product and its code your warranty is voided.

3.  As the Deco products currently do not have a GUI there is not a real easy way to install a 3rd party firmware.

Ultimately they are your products and you can attempt this if you like but I just wanted to make sure you understood the risks before you do.

Best Regards

As long as I can console into the Deco unit, I shouldn’t need a GUI.

At this point, I’d almost prefer bricking one of my Decos if it means I can get some power user features by figuring out the process.

If theres any way we can put in a feature request for a real Advanced Mode, I’d really be a lot happier with them.

still wishing I’d gone with an Ubiquiti setup at this point.

Me too.. I have SERIOUS buyer's remorse with this piece of..... not good hardware. I utterly hate being treated like a CHILD with my devices, being forced to use a mobil app, no logs to review to figure why standard things aren't working. broken DHCP broken NAT no custom DDNS no VPN services I could go on, but you get the point.... long story short, if I can't figure out how to hack some real firmware on here with dd-wrt, this thing is headed for the trash and I'm going to call this a $500 mistake (on top of that i'll warn everyone to avoid tplink in the future...) All that aside, I'm disturbed that much (all??) of this hardware is made in China, a country I trust less and less for all their spying and poor treatment of their citizens.

@matmatician The link you provided isn't working. I've looked around and haven't been able to find it. Is there any OpenWRT support for this unit?
