Hello,

I just purchased a TP-Link AC1900 router

I cannot get it setup...I go through setup...

the wifi works..but no internet.

When I click auto detect it just says unplugged

I have tried two different cables...The cables

are good since they work with my old router

Any ideas?

Mike

I thought I should add..It is being hooked up to a Verizon DSL Modem. I am replacing a old linksys router..that is still working...so I thought just powering down everything...unhooking the cable from the old router and plugging it in the new one...and go through setup...it would work but that has not been the case...

Two things to try.  1st take an enthernet cable you know works and go from the WAN port to one of the LAN ports.  This is called a loopback test.  IF the WAN and LAN lights light up the router's ports and the cable are working.  This would indicate a configuration or a modem issue.

To check a configuration since you mentioned DSL.  Make sure your modem isn't negotationg the PPPoE handshake.  If it is set your router's WAN to DHCP.  If it isn't set your Router's WAN to PPPoE, input your PPPoE username and password and complete the setup.

If that is not the case i would recommend contacting Verizon to have the modem replaced as it could have gone bad.

Hello,

I will try the cable backloop...but I know it works since I have it hooked up now

from the old modem to the old router...I have internet with the old stuff.

When I unhook the cable from the old router and plug in in the new

TP-Link router I get no internet.

That is likely going to be a configuration issue then.  Likely the router is configured with the PPPoE handshake.  You make have done Auto-detect and the system selected DHCP/Dynamic, it happens sometimes. For DSL you would need to set it to PPPoE then input the username and password.

TP-Link support has determined that my router is defective

Read your last two post.  I beleived you had already tried the loopback test and it was successful.  If the loop back was not and it is a good cable then yes there is a defect.
