Model: TL-WR802N
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 0.9.1.3.17 v0348.0 Build 190212

I have my router in WISP mode to provide my own Wifi signal for a WiFi enabled camera. This way I don't have to configure the camera when traveling, I only need to setup the router. I'm currently at my parents house and the router keeps dropping internet connection. If I go into the configuration and just hit Save on the Wireless -> Basic Settings page, it refreshes and the internet is working again. Checking Wifi channels, it is on 1 and that channel is congested, so I wanted to move it to a less used channel, such as 9. I go to the Wireless settings on the left and select Channel 9 from the drop down, hit save and wait for the router to reboot (I'm guessing it reboots since I loose connection and it comes back after some time). However, when I go back to the router configuration it shows the signal is still on Channel 1. Wifi Analyzer also confirms the SSID is broadcasting over Channel 1. How do I get my router to save my settings and move the channel to something less congested?

I've tried before and after updating the firmware, same results.

Also taking ideas/suggestions if someothing thinks there is another issue causing the router to lose internet.

Thanks

If you were to log into the wireless router that the TL-WR802N connects to, what channel is it running for the 2.4GHz?

Channel 1.

Primary wireless router: ssid1 is on channel 1

Tl-wr802n router: ssid2 is on channel 1.

Isn't the idea of WISP mode to create a separate sub-network? Perhaps I'm using the mode if this isnt possible.

The TP-Link will create its own wireless network, but as far as the 2.4GHz channel, will remain the same. What I would try is to change the root routers channel so then the TP-Link will be at that channel. If channel 9 is the least used, having two devices should be fine.

There are 6+ 2.4GHz signals on each of what are usually considered the main channels, 1,6, and 11. Not knowing exactly how these signals behave, 9 felt like it would have the least interference.

Thanks for letting my know how the tp-link router operates. I'll configure the root router to 9 and hope that resolves the issue.

@shesk

Very welcome.

Yes, you are right about 1, 6, 11. Those are the most common 2.4GHz channels.
