Please do champion for a feature to force either 2GHz/5GHz connection to selected device. 

1. Smart-Home devices needs to be on the same network with primary devices (so guest-network work around is not ideal)
2. Most Smart-Home devices don't require a whole lot of bandwidth (i.e. 5GHz), but benefit from better WIFI coverage (i.e. 2.4GHz)

@starmanj omg I have this same problem only my devices stay falling offline no matter how its setup and its not range and its not speed smh its so frustrating because they need to communicate with each other like my front door lock always falls offline and here I come with hands full of stuff and it don't unlock or the lights won't turn off or on fast enough or at all because one device is not online to talk to the other 

this was supposed to make my life easier instead im always messing with the wifi 

If this is happening to Windows PC's then you can just go into devices, find your network adapter, right click, select Properties, select the Advanted tab and then set 802.11a/b/g Wireless Mode to 5Ghz  instead of dual band. This will force it to 5Ghz. Of course, if this is a laptop you take with you to remote locations that only provide 2.4Ghz you will need to remember to reactivate it when you do.

Tnx, this was very helpful, my laptop is now connected via 5GHz. I could actually choose the option "prefer 5GHz" in my network adapter settings, so I guess it will still pick the 2.4GHz when 5GHz is not available.

@starmanj Exactly i am also facing same problem, that's something very basic that they should have provided as a feature. My old routers even with range extenders have given up, they are unable to connect more than 50 devices in total.

Glad i read this before I purchased! What a significantly limiting feature of the device. TP link should et this sorted.

I have my Tp-Link powerline P9 working as an access point. My telecom operator router is de the primary router and I have 500Mb of broadband. The sign is well distributed on my house but  the equipments only connects on 2Ghz band. I tried to turned off P9 2.4Ghz but doesn't work. On the speedmeter I have an incredible 95Mb of download and 90Mb of upload!

I tried to turn off 2.4Ghz on P9 but  the second and third access point still working only with 95Mb of download speed. 

The only viable solution was to turn on 5Ghz wifi on my provider router again. That workaround to access 5Ghz only works on my living room, close to provider's router.  My room and children's bedroom still have 2.4Ghz access with 95Mb download from P9.

My only question was if a P9 working as access point has something to do with it.
