T2U not recognized in PC

I have a T2U adapter in a ASUS laptop and it worked fine until I had a problem and had to reinstall the driver.
After reinstallation, the laptop (running windows 10) would not even recognize the adapter. The green LED did not flash and the driver installation could not find the T2U adapter.
The adapter works as it should in another PC. USB sticks, mouse dongles and the like all work like they should in the laptop. i have uninstalled the old driver and rebooted the system but still no joy.
