Model: Archer AX3000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Latest

ALL of my Android devices (Samsung s10+, note 10+, and s8+) have issues obtaining IP addresses from this router, all of my other devices work flawlessly. I can get my Android devices to connect after I restart my router, but within hours I get kicked off with the same "failed to obtain up address" error. Anyone else experiencing this? It's absolutely maddening because the router works amazingly when my Android devices actually connect.

Try the solution @CallieLinux found on their own thread to see if it works for you:

@Tony

Yes I tried this solution last night after I posted this and it does seem to be working.

@JoshuaJam this solution worked all night last night but when I left my house and came back it could no longer obtain an IP address, when will a new firmware version be out to fix this problem (which I'm sure is more widespread that just aren't posting on the forums)?

I've actually removed the "solution" from my post. The workaround I found only applies if you don't leave the network. I still have to reboot my router everyday to keep my Wi-Fi 6 devices connected.

@JoshuaJam

I am also having the same issues with the Archer3000. It seems that the 2.4G doesn't work in AX mode so what I did was to set it to WiFi 5 and not use the AX band. The 5G band works well in AX mixed mode but not the 2.4G. hopefully TP-Link can resolve these issues because it defeats the purpose of buying a WiFi 6 router and using it only in WiFi 5 mode.

It may not be the router but Android Pie 9?

Some reports of this if you Google it, and some ways that might 'fix' it?

https://www.bestusefultips.com/fix-wifi-problem-after-android-9-pie-update/

I was working fairly well under V 8 of Android (Icecream I think?) and when my LG went to Pie 9 many problems from failure to connect ot dropping out.

Right now, and an Archer A20 I have to use the 2.4Ghz band, the 5Ghz is really unreliable with Pie 9. Even using the 2.4Ghz band I'll get occasional failures to connect or drop off. I also see Seaching, 911 Only, and the phone still works as if it is on Wifi?

@IrvSp

This also occurs on my wife's iPhone 11 Pro. We both are kicked off of the Wi-Fi 6 at the same time.

@IrvSp yeah I misrepresented it, it's definitely a WiFi 6 problem, which like the previous poster said, defeats the purpose of having a WiFi 6 router.

@JoshuaJam

 I am sure it is, but I found it was working 'reasonably' well when I switched over to the 2.4Ghz connection on the phone. 5Ghz didn't work 1/2 as well.

It isn't the router in my case. I had a Netgear before and once the phone updated to Pie 9 it became unreliable to switch. I kept it on the 5Ghz SSID though. When I switched to the TP-Link I played around and discovered 2.4Ghz SSID was the best.
