Model: TL-WN725N
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1030.29.1102.2017

Manufacturer:    TP-Link Technologies Co., Ltd.
Description:    TP-Link Wireless USB Adapter
Driver version:    1030.29.1102.2017

I have a unique problem.

The adapter does not pick up signal from Mobile Hotspot ( Lenovo K8 Note).

The same adapter picks up the signal from my Digisol DG-BG 4100 NU Router (Surprising).

My Mobile hotspot Wifi Band is 2.4 Ghz, WPA2-PSK (security). I have even tried different hotspot names.

Have tried different USB ports on two differrent computers, none of them work.

Have tried installing Driver from the

  1. CD
  2. https://static.tp-link.com/2018/201808/20180820/TL-WN725N(EUUSES)_V3_180807_Win.zip
  3. https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201906/20190606/TL-WN725N_V3_190529_Win10.zip

I use Bitdefender Total Security and Kaspersky Total Security on 2 different computers that I mentioned before. Disabled both of them and tried. Restarted couple of times doing all the steps as mentioned above. Disabled and Enabled Adapter in Adapter Settings in control panel. Checked the WLAN Autoconfig in Services , it is set to Auto and Running. Windows 10 Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.836) .Also disabled the option of "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power Management Tab.  The green light on the adapter Blinks Normally.

But, Nothing Works.

Cannot get Mobile Hotspot Signal from the adapter (Wi-Fi 2). The same mobile hotspot "Data Hungry Person " gets detected on my laptop's (2nd Computer) inbuilt WIFI Adapter. When I disable my inbuilt WIFI , tp-link still does not detect my hotspot signal.

In Dire need for an effective Solution.

The adapter is probably of the US region which only supports channels 1-11.

You need the TL-WN725N EU version which supports channels 1-13.

Delete any existing wireless profile on your laptop.

If you connect to your phone's hotspot with the build-in Wi-Fi does the connection show it is 2.4GHz?

You can also try to remove the wireless password.

@Tony

Hello Tony.

I did reset my network profile. And yes, the connection type is 2.4Ghz (Screenshot is from Inbuilt WiFI adapter).

I removed the password, renamed my wifi with no spaces and tried.

Still nothing works.

@Tony

I am totally struck at this point. I am using Lenovo K8 Note that runs Stock Android (Android 8 Oreo). There are no settings that help me set the channel number to 11. All it lets me do is to choose a username,password and Band (2.4 or 5 Ghz).

Also, I had ordered a replacement on Amazon.in . I'll have to wait till i get the replacement and by the mean time have to figure out how to change the network channel in between 1 and 11.

I found a blog and it appears the adapter does not recognize Network channels 12 and 13.

https://tp69.blog/2019/11/10/tp-link-usb-wi-fi-connection-issue

Please provide a driver update for this issue if possible as it is impossible for stock android devices to change Hotspot Channels.

@Tony

You are right Tony, the adapter is of the US region.

I contacted Amazon and they told me they do not sell EU version in India. I had to request for refund for the product.

I request you to help me select any other TP-link product on Amazon.in that does the same job at a cheaper price.

I would recommend reaching out to your local TP-Link Support here who are familiar with EU products/pricing: link

I wish i had browsed about this problem sooner and found this thread. I had the same issue as yourself. What i did was, in my android phone (since i couldnt chose the channel - tplink supports only till 11, i went to connected devices and then chose limit of connected devices to 1.) Viola, this showed my mobile hotspot in wifi connections with channel 1. Looks like you already returned and got your money back, but hope this information helps others. Cheers.
