Model: Archer C7  
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 3.15.3 Build 180114 Rel.39265n

Is there any possible way to configure WDS bridging and (Static) routing on the C7 at the same time? Normally, I'd have the C7 route through the WAN port, but in t his case that is open. Instead, I just have the WDS bridge.

 

root router:

- 192.168.1.1 / 255.255.255.0

 

Archer C7

- WDS Bridge to root router on 2.4Ghz band

- [WAN] unconnected

- [LAN] 192.168.1.254 / 255.255.255.???

- static routing:

    - 8.8.8.8/255.255.255.255 => 192.168.1.1

 

DHCP:

- 192.168.1.193-224/255.255.255.192

- gateway: 192.168.1.254 [C7 LAN IP address]

 

I tried to connect the WAN port back into the LAN RJ45 port, but the configuration says that the WAN and the LAN have to be on different subnets. Can I accomplish this by dividing the 192.168.1.x address space and using different subnet masks?

With WDS enabled your router is working like a range extender so routing and dhcp feature would be disabled.

@Carl that's the easy answer, but it's not exactly correct. You can't have BOTH routers running DHCP on the same subnet. In my current config, I disabled the DHCP daemon on the root router and instead, I used the DHCP on the C7 because I had more control.
 

The ISP controls the root router and won't let me make certain changes. if I had full control of the root router, I wouldn't have to do any of these changes. 

 

I'm looking for a hack, on that maybe works on subjects that divide up the 192.168.x.x space the root router is stuck on.
