Model: Archer C5400X
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Newest

I just got the router. Tether app installed on my iPhone. Bluetooth on. Everything connected fine. Open tether app. It wants to log in as if you have a wan connection already. It does not mention anything about Bluetooth etc. not yet. There's no way to log in. I'm just connecting for the first time. How stupid is that? It should connect to router first to then set it up to get a wan connection .

2:  Once set up how do I remote connect via the tether app from outside the network? I need to have a friend manage it for me and for me not have access to the router. How do I put someone else in control and me not have control?

3: How do I connect to router locally not using wan? It only offers tp link email log in as if you have a wan already. No admin like all other routers.

4: The web site says parental control/security monthly reports. There's no such thing in the tether app or web ui. How do you get it to email reports weekly and monthly?

See the manual https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-c5400x/ section 12.1 that indicates that you can logon using 192.168.0.1 and I have found the tether app to be very limited in what it can control for my model router. Be sure to use a very strong user id and password on your router if you are going to open it up to the outside world as it is a security risk.

Section 12.1 has nothing to do with my question. It shows it's about LAN settings. But I'll read related parts in the manual.

OK. Manual says launch tether app. It will show the router and the image shows local. This is bull. When opening tether for the first time it doesn't do that. It shows a log in to TP-Link as if you already have a connection and there's no way around that.

Ok. I read the manual. It don’t answer my most important questions regarding the tether app does not show anything local. It expects me to already be online when setting up first time. And then how there’s no admin log in like other routers. It wants you to log in via TP-Link not like admin password.

My answer to: 3: How do I connect to router locally not using wan? It only offers tp link email log in as if you have a wan already. No admin like all other routers. Use the 192.168.0.1 with your PC connected to the router to get into the router without the tether app.

Ya. If you have a computer sure. But when on my phone logging in via the web ui it still asks for the TP-Link log in as if you have a wan connection which sometimes one may not. And I need this tether app Bluetooth to work as it’s supposed to. I did a chat with them online but the person did not know anything about this so I left the chat. I then submitted email through their form. Ugh it should not be so dang difficult.

I see your problem if you do not have a PC. Wonder if you could go to some hot spot or friends house and use the WIFI to get the tether app and set up the TP Link account. If you can take the router and get the router settings setup such as WIFI would be a plus. IMHO the tether app needs more functionality at least for my model.

@Buggs1a

If you want to utilize the Tether app, you must log in with the TP-Link ID first. If you want to avoid needing to log in with the ID on your smartphone, use the web browser on your phone.

2. Here is how you manage it via Tether, by binding your ID to the router: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1366/

If you do not want to use Tether, enable the remote management and access it using your phone browser, or computer like traditional routers: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1553/

Once your router is bound to your TP-Link ID, you can also add other TP-Link IDs as managers to manage your router via Tether. (Tools > TP-Link ID)

3. You would not use Tether, either browser on your phone, computer, or tablet referencing what @ArcherC8 pointed out.

You can reference this FAQ too, for the URL you can also use 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1524/

4. I'm looking into this, so far the router has the insights which shows websites that are visited, but I don't see a section for reports.

Thanks. But the manual says to open the tether app and it shows the router via Bluetooth on first setup. You can’t log in TP-Link with no wan so it’s not possible. That’s why there’s the Bluetooth.
