Hi there.

At this moment I am choosing between AX10 and AX50 for my Oculus Quest 2. As far as I know they seem to have similar problems at ax connection.

The specs of AX50 are higher, but the price of AX50 is lower than the AX10 price at my local store. So I am confused, which one is better and what is the actual difference between two of them?

And another one. I believe some day there will be an update which will fix all the problems with stuttering. Would it work well both on AX10 and AX50?

Thank you, and I apologize for my language.

@Nick2121

Why buy a known defective device? Don't you realize these routers are not suitable for the Oculus Quest?

@Antonix I realize that, thank you.

If I can spend just 45 USD for a device that works well at AC mode (which is ok for Oculus Quest at 72hz) but needs some fixes to get well at AX mode, I will do that instead of spending 300+ USD for a device that works perfectly well from the box. I would rather find a compromise if it is possible.

Btw, the existence of this thread makes me think that we will get the solution soon.

So.. AX10, or AX50?

@Nick2121

You will not get help for a router for which the manufacturer has released only three firmwares since the start of production in two years. Stuttering occurs in any mode on the AX50. My two-year-old $ 30 Zyxel router doesn't stutter in either 2.4GHz or 5GHz modes.

The AX50 is the superior router. The reason it's cheaper is because it's on sale. It's a great price for a WiFi 6 device but for VR streaming it's pretty useless at this point.

I'm returning mine in two weeks if I don't get any kind of update on this.

You should do the same so keep your receipt close if you're planning on buying.

Honestly.... none of them.

There is Wifi 6 (AX) routers in the same price range in others brands. (I won't give names here by respect for the TP-Link forum)

Trust us, don't do that, it's a bad idea.

But if you insist , AX50 .... just because it has some more features.

But again, it's a very bad idea. (yes maybe a fix will come, but nothing is sure about it, and we don't know when)

Have a nice day.

Why are any of you saying the AX50 is superior?

It has the weakest processor of the three AX routers in this range with the AX20 being the most powerful.
Also Quest 2 is not 160MHz compatible so the AX50 is a complete waste of money and is certianly not superior by specification.

I have an AX10 here in the UK and AX WiFi works perfectly well with my Quest 2.
The issue lies with the US hardware/firmware and can be fixed by TP Link when they get on with it.

To be honestly I only bought this budget router to test in order to help our users but since I dont have any issues I will be selling it and have ordered an ASUS RT-AX56U for even more stabilty with my Quest 2.

I hope TP Link come back with a firmware update for the rest of you soon.

@oursoul

It's not because a CPU has less core that it make it a weakest processor. Things do not work like that.

In fact the intel CPU has some features that allow it to work faster with network card (intel make lot of network controller).
So far, I have no proof that it is a worst CPU.

As I said in a previous post, that stuttering issue exist on both routers, AX10 and AX50, for me it's unlikely a CPU issue (it can be, but I really doubt about it)

I personally think it's a firmware issue.

Then yes, what I said is correct, AX50 has some more features, but I strongly recommend to not buy it.

This British YouTuber tested each one.

the AX50 is clearly the weakest.

Anyway, I've done all I can.. fingers crossed the issue gets sorted as we have so many people asking which router to buy every day.

@oursoul

Our R and D tested and did not find any issues.  They will continue to test to see if they can replicate the concerns.
