Firmware Version: 1.0.16 Build 20201029 rel.43238(5553)

Hi All,

I have a 1Gbps Internet from Xfinity, my wired speed on the AC1750 is good and is around 850Mbps. However my 5Ghz Wifi speed is stalled at 300Mbps, I am in a close proximity to the router.

Isn't the 5Ghz supposed to deliver close to 1Gbps? Can anyone advise please?

Thanks,

See this for a full discussion on WIFI https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html as many things effect WIFI speeds.

TP Link makes so many routers (IMHO too many) with varying features, it would be hard to recommend a specific router because everyone's needs differ. I have the C8 which is fine for me as I have 200 service and get 235 +/- from Xfinity and it has the features I need. My next router looks like it will be a Mesh router system and I want to have VPN support, USB that support Time Machine, port forwarding, controllable from an Ethernet connection and not need an on-line app/service, latest security features, plus be large enough for the foreseeable future. I would think your AX1500 5GHz WIFI should be able to get close the max speeds you will be able to get when you are close to the router with the equipment you have. You are only as fast as your slowest link, so if you have a slow WIFI card in your PC, that will be the limit. The 2.4 GHz WIFI is limited to 300 on that router so it will be a bit slower than that as all posted speeds for routers are for laboratory conditions, not real life conditions. If speed is the primary then consider a gaming router. TP Link's AX11000 appears to be their fastest router but that may be a bit of overkill.

@Joe_11

You might be looking at the wrong 'thing'.

Wired depends on the Network cable and ports. A 1GB port with a Cat6 cable will do close to 1GB.

Wireless, just like wired, you need the right combination to achieve the desired speed. The router serving up the wireless speed and the wireless device to handle it.

For instance, an 802.11 N Speed rated wireless adapter will connect at 867Mbps...but in reality you might only get 1/2 that speed as throughput. That requires a router that will transmit 5Ghz SSID at 900Mbps. AC speed devices will connect faster. 1,200Mbps or faster depending on model/make. I've got a 1,300Mbps wireless device that connects at that speed. 650Mbps throughput would be good on that.

AX is the next bump up. However, there are many variations on that and what it can transmit in terms of speed.

I suggest you read this web page, https://www.pcmag.com/news/how-fast-is-wi-fi-6, it should help you understand more. Another as well, https://www.cnet.com/news/how-fast-is-wi-fi-6-our-latest-speed-test-results/.

Note that in some cases, the router and adapter might not work well together either, especially older adapter's,
