Allow ping from WAN port?
Are there any benefits to un-checking "Allow pings from WAN port" in the Security -> Firewall tab of the router pages?? I have unchecked it and have not seen any problems yet.
Looking for opinions from those with more network knowledge.
Thanks . .

Unchecking it means someone on the internet will not get a response from your router. Kinda like someone screaming marco, and you not responding with polo. Some people with malicious intent will do scans for various IP addresses, look for a ping response, then start scanning ports to see if they can find a way into the router. There are other ways to still know the device is really there, but it is best to disable it if it is a simple home router, and not a router you will manage remotely say in a business setting where you want to know the device is still up throughout the day.
