Ordered a Deco S4 2 pack. Working on the assumption that that I may need an extender I was thinking of the AC 1200 (RE300) to install between them. Would this be viable or would a different extender or node be required

At this time you can only add Deco to a Deco network. You can have up to 10 nodes in one network. The Deco equivlant of the RE300 is the Deco M3W. This model is EOL so it might be hard to find, however any Deco can be used. I would recommend a Deco M4 1-pack.
