Model: Deco S4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

After going through the set-up process and all ,looks good. However, when I attempt to locate the first unit I get a red light. Does one of the units need to remain wired to the modem?

Yes,  the main unit must stay connected to the source of internet.  Look at Deco or any Mesh like a router with mulitple units.  One always has to be connected to the source.  The rest and for Deco that is up to 9 remote units can be wireless and other locations through out the house.
