Hi,

 

first i tried to set the router to an static IP. However it was then unable to check for updates. I then noticed there is simply no setting for DNS

RE550 has an option for dns

So i set it to DHCP. Which "resolved" the issue. However, and i don't think this is to be expected since no other Device does this... the AX73 is requesting the IP about every 30 Seconds!

Am i missing something or did i find 2 Bugs in one go?

Based on the information you provided, it seems the Archer AX73 is working as an Access Point, and you are trying to set a static IP address for it with the purpose of disabling the frequent DHCP request, am I right?

 

Firstly, I would like to explain why it sends the DHCP request when it's working in AP mode. It uses Smart DHCP by default when you configure it at AP mode, and it will continuously check if the DHCP server on the network is correctly on, it will turn itself on if it finds there is no DHCP server in the network.

 

Instead of using a static IP address on the AX73, I would suggest setting an Address Reservation for the AX73 on the host router, then you may check if the AX73 can check for the updates automatically.

  @Kevin_Z Hello, thanks for your answer. Yes you are correct. It is set to act as an access point. So the AX has this smart DHCP Feature and the RE550 doesn't?

 

I would like to set it to static IP since this my preferred way of configuring network devices. I prefer to only use DHCP for "real" clients like PCs/Smartphones and the likes. 

 

I already have an address reservation so that's not an issue (and does in fact work with updates), but i was just wondering why it sends an request every minute (which you have answered) and why the RE550 isn't showing this behavior. Also i still think the DNS setting is missing if i set it up with an static IP.

In my Network there are about 30 DHCP Hosts and only the AX73 is acting up + there is still no option to define an DNS Server once you go with an static IP in "Access Point Mode"
