Hardware Version / Firmware Version

  • It's disconnected so I don't know
  • Hardware Version: I just bought it from Costco a week (12/2022) ago under the AXE5300 model variant
  • Firmware Version: I updated it to whatever the latest firmware was 12/6/2022

Background:

I am a brand new owner of the Deco XE75 and would really love to keep it but the following bug, that affects this particular TV model, will force me to return it if it can't get sorted out.  I am a software engineer in the IoT space and have done my best to look around the internet for potential fixes to this issue.  It really is a poor experience and it does not occur at all with my 2019 Netgear Nighthawk or my 1st Gen Google WiFi (I have swapped back and forth multiple times trying different configurations on the Deco)

The Issue:

Multiple times a day, the two M65-F0 Vizio TVs in my home show "No Network Detected" and require a reboot in order to recover.

Relevant (maybe?) info:

  • I have two other very similar Vizio TVs; an M70 and an M60 that are maybe one generation older that do not have this issue at all.
  • This issue does not occur at all with my 2019 Netgear Nighthawk or my 1st Gen Google WiFi

Things I've tried (nothing has changed the end result):

  • Disable beam forming
  • Disable mesh on the affecged TVs
  • Set a static IP address on the affected TVs
  • Set the 5GHz band to 80Mhz instead of 160Mhz

My takeaway:

  • Something about the M65-F0 caused the Deco XE75 to have issues that do not occur on other routers

Conclusion:

I really want to keep this because the speeds are so stinking fast!! But two of my TVs basically becoming useless isn't worth the price as I use the WiFi connection of the TV heavily in my home.  Please HELP!!

Hey @stevejensen22,

I would first try to turn off fast roaming in addition to the setting you have already tried, as the disconnects could be the result of the router trying to move the TV over to the 5Ghz frequency, which the TV may not support.

Have you taken a look in the logs of your device to see if there is an error that would indicate what is causing the disruption?

Does the same behavior occur when the Deco is set up as an Access Point, rather than a router?

You could also try setting the static IP on both the TV, and in the Deco's IP reservations section.

Lastly, when the disconnect happens, do any other devices exhibit strange behavior or is the disconnect limited to the TVs? Do you remember what the color of the LED light was during the disruption?

Hey @Riley_S! Thanks for the response!

Fast roaming was disabled by default on my system. I'll double check to make sure it still is today.

I have not looked at the logs.  I'll see what I can find.

The same behavior does occur when the Deco is set up as an access point.

I did try setting both a static IP and an IP reservation.

I've never seen any other color than green on the LEDs, and haven't noticed issues with any other devices.

@Riley_S, is there maybe a beta firmware I could try? I do feel like I've exhausted all of your configuration suggestions, so I'm hoping a firmware change might just fix the issue.

  @stevejensen22,

I went and check to see if there has been any new beta firmware posted, and I did not find anything; the only beta firmware that is currently available for the Deco XE75 is already posted to the forums, and is in response to a different issue that affects the whole network, rather than the connections between the nodes and devices. you can find the thread here: Beta Firmware for Select Deco Models and Verizon ONT Compatibility

If you feel that you have exhausted all your troubleshooting options, I would recommend getting in direct contact with our support team, who can work to collect logs to diagnose the issue TP-Link Live Support Services

Have you checked to see if there are any other reports from other Visio Owners of similar behaviors that could help explain why it is only these devices?
