I purchased an AX3000 router and updated the firmware -Oh my!- TP-Link didn't update the wi-fi security protocols of the router!

That's why I ask: Is firmware always hardware dependent?

If it is not why new updates do not replace the weak wi-fi  WPA/WPA2 (TKIP) by the more secure Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2), or Wi-Fi Protected Access 3 (WPA3)?

I guess memory limitation is one of the reasons, but why not get rid of some less important features in order to make more room available? Or is the commercial interest much more important than the customer satisfaction?

Yes, Firmware is hardware dependent.  For your particular router, there isn't any different between WPA/WPA2 and WPA2.  What matters is the settings you are using.  By the sounds of it you are still using Auto for both so I recommend going to Advanced > Wireless > Wireless settings and changing to WPA2-PSK and AES.  That will fix your concerns

It seems that TP-Link has more than one AX3000 speed models? The AX50 and AX55 (which I have and does have WPA3) may have something to do it. Either the internal chipset or when produced?

My AX55 choices:

However, it might appear in a later F/W update... but some models seem to have them rarely/

Mine is AX50. But if the limitation is chipset related then there is nothing that could be done.
