Model: Archer AX6000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Archer AX6000(US)_V1_1.3.0 Build 20221208

Updated to latest Firmware and the 2.4 Ghz WiFi keeps dropping several times per day and takes about 2 to 3 minutes before it allows devices to connect back in.

Every single device that is connected to that band gets dropped from the network at the same time.

This started when I upgraded to the new firmware

Archer AX6000(US)_V1_1.3.0 Build 20221208

I tried changing all the 2.4 Ghz settings to Auto but the problem still exists.

  @Lothos, did you contact TP-Link support?  I have about 20 IOT devices on 2.4Ghz and we couldn't afford to have them being dropped like that. Thanks

Hello @Lothos  @Golding

Thank you both for reporting a similar issue with the wireless connectivity issue with the AX6000 router.

We haven't received an issue report on whether this is caused by the firmware upgrade. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

1. Are wired and 5GHz still stable after the firmware update? When the 2.4GHz drops, are the 2.4GHz wireless clients still connected to the network or are they disconnected completely? You can verify by checking the wireless network connectivity on the client devices, whether they show connected but no internet or switch to another network.

2. Try to modify the 2.4GHz wireless settings on the AX6000. Such as changing a clearer channel, changing the channel width to 20MHz, and Mode to 802.11b/g/n mixed. You can also change the wireless security to WPA-PSK, AES.

3. Are you enabling EasyMesh on the AX6000 and connecting EasyMesh extenders? If not, please check and make sure EasyMesh is disabled on the AX6000.

  @Kevin_Z

1 - Everything else on the router works perfectly fine since I did the firmware upgrade. The issue is isolated to the 2.4Ghz band. I did not have any problems prior to the upgrade. The symptom of the problem is all devices get dropped from the 2.4Ghz WiFi completely (meaning no connection) for a few minutes and then re-connect. This happens to all of them at the exact same time.

2 - I changed the channel to 11 and so far I have not had the problem. However, (read below I will explain)

3 - Mesh is turned off as I am not using it.

I recently purchased an TP-Link RE105 so that I can connect my Solar Panels to the Internet. This is working, however the Firmware for the RE105 does not allow you to turn off its WiFi Extender abilities. I put that signal to minimum power and also made it not broadcast. The RE105 is about 30 feet away from the AX6000 router and I am wondering if this may be the issue?

@Lothos

How is the RE105 connected to the AX6000, via a wired connection or via wireless? Is it working in extender mode?

If the RE105 is connected to the AX6000 via wireless and working as an extender, there would be wireless interference between the 2.4G of the AX6000 and that of the extender. You can try to power off the RE105 temporarily and observe if the 2.4G of the AX6000 would be stable.

  @Kevin_Z The RE105 is in Extender Mode because it needs a WiFi to connect to the AX6000. The issue is that Access Point Mode does not appear to be a good option.

What I really need is the RE105 to be an Access Point but use the RJ45 as the Access Point and the WiFi to connect to the AX6000. However the Access Point Mode works in reverse and instead uses the RJ45 to connect to the router and the WiFi as the Access Point.

Many devices like the RE105 usually comes with 3 modes (not just 2). The third mode actually does what I need it to do but the RE105 does not come with it.

Is their a way to get it to work that way so it does not broadcast an 2.4Ghz signal?

  @Lothos I do believe this is the AX6000 having issues with the RE105 being about 40 feet away. The problem is that I need the RE105 to be a Media Bridge but it has no option for that.

Is their a TP-Link device that is not expensive that can be used as a Media Bridge? I am trying to connect one device to the network that does not have WiFi abilities.

  @Lothos I replaced the RE105 with the RE230 since the RE230 allows me to shut off the Extended WiFi networks but leave the bridge to the main router (via WiFi) connected.

Hopefully this will solve the problem!

  @Kevin_Z any more help you can provide?

I have replaced the RE105 with the RE230 and the problem still exists.

At this point I am 100% convinced it is the latest firmware as this problem started happening as soon as I upgraded. I have tried a factory reset, I have tried moving the 2.4 Ghz band channel and nothing seems to work.  What i did notice is that their appears to be a time patern to it. One of the rest points happens every day between 5:15am and 5:30am (eastern time).

Please advise!

@Lothos

Sorry for the late response.

I may run out of ideas why this happens but I would like to escalate the case to our support engineers, they will help investigate this further and provide a solution.

Please check your registered email box to discuss this further with them. Thank you.

  @Lothos, Not sure this will help, but it might.  We started having a 2.4Ghz dropping problem on December 25, 2022.  Initially we thought is was one of our Christmas gifts drowning everything out. Turns out, one of our neighbors (two houses away, no less) turned on a very powerful router that drowned out our signal.  Their signal strength only shot up at certain times of the day.  I was able to untangle the situation with an Android App called Wifi Analyzer.  There is another tool for linux called LinSSID, I assume there is other freeware for Windows. We also learned that our HP printer was broadcasting as an access point. Since turned off. Good luck.
