My AX10 router switches between 5G and 2.4Ghz networks for devices that should just stay on 5GHz. How can I set the router or device so it only recognizes the 5G network?

  @capatel81,

Depending on the device, you may be able to force the device to use a specific band. However, it is not commonly seen.

To do what you are looking for, you will need to disable the Smart Connect feature for your router, which will separate out the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands into separate networks. You can then choose to use the same network name or a different name to distinguish between the two bands in your list of networks.

With Smart Connect disabled, your device will be in charge of moving between bands rather than your router. This means that the device may be more likely to stay on the 5GHz network even if the 2.4 and 5GHz networks are the same name. Using different names, however, will essentially force your device to treat them as if it was a completely separate network and only will transfer when out of range of the network it is currently using.
