Model: Deco XE5300
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

So i know in recent app revisions the option to tell the system you want to dedicate the 6ghz band for backhual was removed. My understanding is though it will still use the 6ghz band for backhual though behind the scenes? The reason i'm asking is should i still leave the 6ghz band off so the mesh system with dedicate that band for the backhaul or should i just turn it on & it won't make a difference?

  @ncage A little disappointing to see no one in support has answered your question with a simple, yes or no even. 😣

  @WYLDSTALLYNS  I agree especially considering this is one of the main reason I chose this mesh sy

When it comes to issues like this, you have to go back to how it worked with older forums, keep bumping your topic so they know you’re alive and other users are aware you’ve gone unanswered!

  @ncage

The backhaul will always attempt using all bands.

You should configure and name the 6ghz wireless only if you want to use it for some devices.

  @ncage I just got off of "Live Chat" with TP-LINK for this exact question. They said that the old choise of 6ghz dedicated backhaul or 6ghz backhaul & WIFI has become automated. It is basically 6ghz backhaul & WIFI ALL the time. However, if the slave unit is too far away, it will resort to 2.4 or 5ghz. So it's basically all automatic now. Including if you use ethernet; it will know.

MY PROBLEM however is: How do I know if the backhaul is using 6ghz, 2.4, or 5ghz. Whichever band it is using for backhaul, WILL TAKE from the available bandwidth of that band. When I look at my deco slave unit, it says connected to main deco unit: (2.4ghz/6ghz/5ghz_1). So, I can only ASSUME that it sees all 3 bands and is "Intelligently" choosing the 6ghz band. I would rather it say straight up which band it's using, so I know if I am placing the slave unit too far away, and it's choosing the 2.4 or 5ghz band because it's a stronger signal.

  @Mikis The backhaul has always been fully automatic.  Usage of 6GHz to connect the wireless devices has always been optional, I believe.

If a satellite is showed as connected via several methods (bands) to another Deco, it means they communicate via the combination of those methods.

If one of the band does not allow communicating, it will not be showed in the list of methods used between two Decos.

There is no reason to believe that 6GHz is always better than the others, or to assume it is better to communicate via a single band.

I mentioned 6ghz being better for 2 reasons. 1) The 6ghz band can handle a larger bandwidth and throughput; thus more capable of maximizing the available bandwidth from the internet provider. 2) There are a lot less devices using the 6ghz band, (for me, I only have 1 device that uses 6ghz (My MAC computer) and I use ethernet on that, so I have nothing using 6ghz); so it would be nice if I could dedicate the entire 6ghz to the backhaul and free up all 2.4 and 5 ghz bandwidth for my devices.

  @Mikis

The backhaul will use the various bands in order to reduce the latency.

Hence, depending on the physical environment, and depending on the traffic, the Deco will dynamically choose the optimal band for each packet transmitted on the backhaul.

If, in your specific setup, the 6ghz band can handle a larger throughput between two Decos, the Deco will detect that, and use that band for the backhaul, as long as the traffic does not require using more bands.
