USB HDD storage
USB HDD storage
I have things I want to share across my home network based on an external HDD.
I have followed along with all the documentation for making this happen, and for the most part, it works..
Here is the sticking point, and I have *zero* clue how to fix/correct it:
I have 2 folders(directories) that I want to share: Movies, TV.
All of the Movies are there and accessible. The folder for TV is there, but when attached to the router, it is empty. I physically disconnect it from the router, and plug it into my computer and everything is there...
Am I missing some esoteric setting?

If I understand you correcty, You can share the movies folder on the network drive but not the TV folder.
Disk drive structure has flags that allow the user to control the disk file permissions. It soulds like they need to be changed to allow access. Setting them would be different based on your operating system (windows, Apple OS, Lunux,...).

@BrianB61672 Hey, if changing the permissions doesn't work try putting movies and shows in one folder. Or, just move the "tv" into the movies folder and see if you have access. I mean it should take the parent folder's permissions. If it works then change the name of movies and remake a new moviers foilder within it. It doesn't explain why it didn't work to begin with. Doing what you already did I'm sure you doin't need a lesson on permissions being that I'm sure you understamnd that for doing it to begin with..

I do not see *within the router administration page(s)* where to change permissions; I have confirmed over and over that files are present in both directories- Movies and TV - I have also 'moved' the TV directory inside the Movies directory and have had zero success. I also purposely chose to keep them separate - and would like to keep them that way. I just have no idea how to make 'invisible' files visible from within the router administration page(s)

First thing is to ensure the on the Router GUI for USB, Secure Sharing if OFF... not all programs can handle that and will show nothing.
Maybe, and I could be wrong, but the TV itself can't handle a directory with 2 letters in the name, should be larger?
Another thing to consider, could the disk need CHKDSK run on it, maybe some internal structure is 'bad'?
You were not clear though one what you actually see? Do you see on the TV the folder MOVIES?
Samba for Windows does need to be checked for a Media Client to see anything on the USB drive.
Can also check in it Windows using in a CMD prompt NET VIEW \\share_name where share_name is the name of the share, default is probably TP-SHARE... like this on my PC to see what is on the USB drive and the shared content:
