What signals are expected out of a RE220?

Model: RE220
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

A very basic question:

Background:

I just bought a couple of RE220s to extend the range of my wireless network.

The 2.4 and 5 Ghz signals from the units are named as extensions of the main network:

Suppose the main network is named:

main

I append

_220_2.4 (for one RE220)

_220b_2.4 (for the other RE220)

for the 2.4 Ghz extended networks. Similarly for the 5 Ghz extended networks.

Should I expect the input network (main) to be boosted and emitted?

Or are only the extended networks - extended?

Basically, should I just name all networks "main" to use it as a single network?

Thanks,

DrTSPC

Hey @DrTSPC

Welcome to the community!

As long as your RE220s are selecting/connecting the main network as the source/root network during setup, the main network will be the connection that the extenders connect to and repeat.

  @Ryan

Thank you for the useful response.

That makes sense, for some reason, my impression from similar equipment (years ago) is that there might be signals generated in addition to the boosted incoming signal (main).

I had already changed the names of the emitted signals in the units, and things work better - as you might imagine - when trying to be on "main".
