Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.26

Does not matter if connected to main deco or sitting next to second deco, the signal strength is the same and worse than my ancient AerialG. Green lights and "Everything's fine" on the deco "app". Eight hours of trying to get this thing working correctly, most of that with support, it is not resolved.

Win10 laptop stopped connecting again - "cannot connect to this network". Only got the wifi working by connecting the ethernet cable to it, then it would connect.

Anything else to try before returning this non-functional mesh system?

Here are a few suggestions you may consider trying, though their effectiveness is uncertain:

 

1. Open the Deco app and select "More."

 

2. Navigate to "Advanced."

 

3. Ensure that the operation mode is set to "Wi-Fi Router."

 

4. Verify that Beamforming is enabled.

 

5. Exit the advanced options and select "Network Optimization."

 

6. Click on "Scan."

 

If these steps do not resolve the issue, I recommend rebooting both your router and modem.

Refer to the image provided and ensure that your network is not set up as shown in the third example.

  @magno_grail Not using Backhaul. Tried all the settings support could come up with. I cannot run cable to the second deco as it is in another (wood frame) building. The ancient AerialG has no problem reaching that far with more signal strength.

Other TP-Link routers had the option to increase the range of the broadcast via the app but i dont see anything for that in the app :(

  @HelpFixDecoApp The second deco is between the main and PC but the ancient AerialG which sits near the main has higher signal strength than either deco. What is the point of having a mesh system if it does not increase the local signal strength over the main deco alone?

No, I am not buying another piece of hardware to make this thing equal the AerialG.

Just a few questions that will help our community get a clearer picture of your issue:

 

1. Is the firmware on your Deco X55 unit(s) fully up to date?

 

2. It sounds like you have two Deco X55 nodes in your Mesh Network, is that correct?

 

3. Are other devices besides the PC also reflecting the same signal/range concerns?

 

4. When you set up your Deco Mesh Network, did you create a new SSID (Wi-Fi name) that is separate/different from your old network's name? 

- If not, and the Deco shares the same name as your old router/Wi-Fi, this could potentially cause the PC to encounter connection issues if you didn't have that PC "Forget" the network first.

 

5. Can you open the Deco app to verify which Deco node your PC is connecting to primarily? For example, is it not roaming from the main node to the satellite node?

 

6. What is the model of the Wi-Fi adapter in your PC, and is its driver fully updated? 

- A few select Wi-Fi adapter chipsets have known issues when migrating from older Wi-Fi protocols to newer ones (Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7) without a driver update.
