I am able to acess the drive i connected to the system, however when i tried to perform an upload, the router crashes and restarts. any help?

One thing that can cause this is if the usb drive is pulling to much power for the router. Use a powered hub. Be sure you are using the disk formats that are supported by that router. Also try a different usb cable.

@ArcherC8 could be. i pugged in an external hard drive into the router, all my partitions are ntfs and ext4

Per the user guide for the X50...
If you use a USB hard drive, make sure its file system is FAT32, exFat, NTFS or HFS+.
