Can this router be software updated by the user.?

The router (now 7 years old) has begun turning itself off repeatedly. Entirely off, with no lights on. It also turns the wireless wi-fi connections off only, the Ethernet-wired devices are still on, or so I think.

Have checked the power connections and Ethernets also but found nothing wrong there.

Any communications will be appreciated.
