Model: TL-WA1201
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Just purchased an AC1200 TL-WA1201 to extend wireless range of an existing AC1750 main router several rooms away.  I can connect the TL-WA1201 to the AC1750 with a WIRED Ethernet cable. So what mode should the new access point be in? Currently the system uses a single SSID, but with the new access point I would like to set it up as separate SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 Ghz.

If you're about to connect your main router and the AP with an ethernet cable you should use Access Point mode for the AP.

If you want a different SSIDs for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless networks just disable Smart Connect feature.
