Archer AX21 to Deco Xe75
Archer AX21 to Deco Xe75

I currently have an Archer AX21 router. I am trying to replace it with a Deco XE75. I set the Deco SSID and Password to the same as the Archer. Also set the security to the same.
Things like my computer, phone, tablet, etc. all connect just fine. I have some Apple Homepod mini's and they connect just fine.
I have several TAPO Matter devices, S505 and P125M. None of those will re-connect to the DECO. I switch back to the Archer and they all come back on line with no problem.
I have updated the DECO to the latest firmware, not sure the firmware number.
What do I need to do to get things to come back up? I don't want to have to reset everything and start from scratch.

I would try switching from the archer back to the XE75 and see if they connect if they don't reboot the Deco from the app and see if they will connect after the reboot. If they still won't connect after the reboot let me know and we can go from there

@jwwhite According to TP Link even though everything is set the same it's still a different network and thus everything has to be reset and readded. Only took about 4 hours...GRRR

@jwwhite So you had two networks and not one got it glad you got it working :)

@HelpFixDecoApp Didn't really have 2 networks. Shut down the one and started up the other with the same settings. Which apparently doesn't make any difference, it still a different network according to TP Link.

Well. Found the problem. Apparently the DECO uses a different default subnet mask. And that is difficult to find in the settings. So I never noticed. Every other TPLink router I have owned, which is several. Used 255.255.255.0. But the DECO used 255.255.252.0. Go figure.

@jwwhite I'm going to ask about this. When I switched over from my Archer to my deco I was able to use the same SSID and Password and never had any issues like you did. Thank you for letting me know what you found.

@HelpFixDecoApp I'll be interested to hear what you might find out.

I want to look into this more for you guys. Do you have the ticket or case number for when you worked with TP-Link? This was a concern with previous generations of products, but it was related to MAC binding. What would happen is that your clients would bind not only to the SSID and password but also to the MAC of the Wireless Access Point. So when you change out the router or AP, the client would see the network credentials but would not recognize the MAC and so wouldn't connect. That hasn't been a problem for a while not, or at least not that I am aware of.
Another potential cause would be is that the majority of Tapo and Kasa devices only operate on the 2.4 GHz network. If your old Archer was using separate SSIDs for both 2.4 and 5 GHz, then you would need to make sure the combined network used the 2.4 GHz credentials.
Lastly, there have been issues in the past with legacy devices that just did not want to connect to networks using a combined SSID. This is addressed with the inclusion of the IoT network in Decos. Just enable that set it to the ssid of the previous router's 2.4 GHz network and set it to 2.4 GHz only. Keep in mind this would need to be a seperate network SSID than what is used on the main network.
Let me know that case ID and I'll look into your particular concern.

I can't seem to find the support case number. Just found it. TKID250654276
Here is what I did. I configured the IOT WIFI as a 2.4 only. I set that for the same SSID and Password as my old router. None of the Tapo Matter devices would connect to the wifi. I had to do a reset on every one of them and then repair into Apple Home which is the way I did it before.
I also had some cameras, different brand, none of them would connect either until reset and readded.
About the only things that connected automatically were phones, Ipads, computer, and several Apple Homepod Mini's.
I was on a chat session with TP-Link and was told that even tho the SSID and Password were the same it was a totally different network from the Archer and thus things would not connect with out re-configuring. I gave up asking at that point and just bit the bullet and did all the re-configuring. Only took about 4 hours.
I have switched routers in the past and never had this issue before.
The only difference I could find in the setup was the subnet mask was different. I didn't see this initially and had already re-configured everything so wasn't going to tempt fate and change it at this point.

@jwwhite The products that wouldn't connect they were all Tapo products? If so can you list what they device is (Smart plug, Light Bulb) and the model and how many of each?
I was wondering if the problem was with the devices themselfs and not with the deco router. LIke i was telling Carl I have XE75 pro's and never had your issue.
