Model: Deco XE75 Pro
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

I can soon upgrade to 2.5GB service for less than I'm paying for 1GB

However, the XE75 Pro only has 1GB out LAN ports and my PC systems can handle 2.5GB.

I currently use TP link 2.5GB switches to share data between PCs using Cat 6 cables.

Reasonably happy with Wi-Fi perfornace with 3 units in an older house.

Since I should not put the switch in front of the router, how can I best upgrade the Deco router unit to provide 2.5GB service via its LAN ports? I'm trying to avoid a completely new system since these units are only about 15 months old.

  1. BE 23 would provide 2x2.5 LAN ports so I could feed my switch. Cheapest solution but ??
  2. BE 63 provides 4x 2.5 LAN ports, so I could drop the switch. 1 unit $200 - 3 units $420
  3. BE 75 - 2 units $470
  4. BE 85 - 1 unit 400

Would replacing only the unit designated as router work - DEco units are meant to backwards compatible.

Anyone done this? Or know it would work?

@John_Ch I honestly would not get the BE85 if I wanted to keep using the XE75 Pros, or specifically not replace them all (because as you note they are only 15 mo old).

A couple of reasons why:  1 the whole system would be limited by the slowest in Deco Mesh.  So the BE85 would be limited to the XE75 Pro speed.  Also one typically pays a premium for one of higher end (2nd only to BE95) models, without taking full advantage of its capability.  I believe @HelpFixDecoApp is suggesting the BE85 may be able to replace all 3 XE75 Pros but I am not confident about that...

I'd suggest getting one BE63.  Then you have freedom to use the switch somewhere else.  (EDIT-  I am pretty sure the BE85 has enough ports to replace the switch as well, to be fair).

  @John_Ch

If your trying to future proof I would go with replacing the 3 XE75 pros with BE85. If we do a side by side comparison of just the differences in WiFi speed there is a huge difference.

The BE85 is on the left and the XE75 pro is on the right. Reading up on the BE85 it sounds like the Sq Ft coverage for just one unit is "around" 2000 to 2500 sq FT and a 3 pack  would cover up to 9800 sq FT. You could also Buy just on BE85 and make it the main deco and use the 3 XE75 decos as satellite units to increase the coverage. Below you will find the chart with the speeds and here is a link to the comparison tool https://www.tp-link.com/us/compare/?typeId=5757&productIds=68207%2C73804

Thank you both for your replies. I'm mainly interested in having 2.5 GB shared among my PC's since they can operate on 2.5 GB LAN, I will have to check what Wi-Fi our LT's can use - but I can always update them. The other equipment about 40 devices as I type, TV's, Tablets, etc, are mostly on the 2.40 GHz band, so faster Wi-Fi speeds are not crucial.

I'm leaning to the lower cost solution 1 x BE 63 for circa $200, and keeping the Xe75 Pros as satellites. At my age, I don't see wanting 10GB service :)

Update:

I decided to go with 2x BE63 so that I can use my higher speed LAN and play with Wi-Fi 7 on my wifes LT. She hates cables and doesn't want me to run a LAN cable to her LT- sigh... I will see what differences I get with my existing 1 GB service and whether I can reduce the number of satellites and still get acceptable coverage. Perhaps I can get some $$ for a couple of them in that case.

Hopefully the existing Deco app will be able to see my new BE 63's.

Glad you found something that works for you. As for the low cell service this isn't out yet, but something you can consider https://www.tp-link.com/us/deco-mesh-wifi/product-family/deco-x80-5g/
