Hi. I am new to the TP Link line of routers.  Currently, I have a Synology router in a mesh network.  I am looking to get another router to use at home mostly with Apple devices. I am looking to find out which models are good, reliable, and stable to use at home.  Obviously, I want a router that is still supported and receiving firmware updates.

Thanks.

Can you help with a few answers?

  1. What are your coverage needs?
  2. How many devices will be on the network?
  3. How fast is your ISP connection and do you have plans on increasing those speeds in the future?
  4. Do you do any gaming or 4k video streaming on your Network?
  5. Are you devices mainly Wi-Fi 5, 6, or 7?

@Carl Hi.  As I mentioned before, I have a Synology 6600 router.  I have a mesh network (Wifi) not wired with 2200 in the entryway and 2600 in the garage.  So, coverage is pretty good.   Some of the devices are IoT like Ring and Alexa.  I have mostly Apple (Mac, iPad, Phones, ATV) and some PCs that are wired. We have two TVs for streaming stuff but no 4k though. My ISP is Optimum.  My son does some gaming on his laptop.

I am looking at an entry level TP Link router to maybe someday replace the Synology router or to have as a backup if the current router fails. As of now, Synology got out of the router business and will not support them beyond the summer of 2026.

With that said, I am looking into TP Link routers and thinking of getting one that is stable and reliable but also is still supported today.
