Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.10

Hi,

I just purchased and set up a 3 node Deco X55 mesh network. I have older Wemo smart plugs and I have not been able to get them to connect. I created an IoT Network. Originally it had WPA/WPA2 security, but I also tried Open (no password - to try to rule encryption issues, but it behaved very oddly) as well as just WPA2. The network is configured as 2.4GHz. My cable modem offers a WiFi network and the Wemos can connect to it without issue, but the signal is too weak to use throughout the house. I was hoping that a mesh network would resolve those issues. Oh well...

Has anyone had success connecting Wemo smart plugs to a Deco mesh/IoT network?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi,

I found the problem - I had set up the SSID as: Rob's Mesh...the problem is the apostrophe. I removed it, and now I can connect. Now if I could just the the Apple Home app to work...

Thank-you,

Rob

Okay, I understand that you are having trouble connecting your Wemo smart plugs (IoT devices) to your Deco Mesh (X55) network, specifically to the IoT Network you created. You have tried different security settings (WPA/WPA2, WPA2 only, and Open) and ensured the network is 2.4GHz, but the plugs still won't connect, even though they work with your cable modem's Wi-Fi.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

For IoT devices that only support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and are configured via a phone app:
1) Go to the Deco App > MORE > IoT Network, make sure the IoT network is enabled and connect your Wemo plugs to this network. If your Deco model doesn't support the IoT network, you can temporarily turn off the 5GHz network on the Deco to help with configuration. After setup, remember to re-enable the 5GHz band.
2) Go to Deco App > MORE > Wi-Fi Backhaul Mode, and switch the Wi-Fi Backhaul Mode to 'High Capacity' to improve 2.4GHz performance and reduce congestion.
3) Double-check your Wi-Fi SSID and password. Avoid using special characters such as spaces, #, $, /, %, *, @, &, brackets, non-English quotation marks, or non-English letters/numbers, as these can cause compatibility issues with some IoT devices.

Additional Troubleshooting:
• If your Wemo plugs still can't connect, try disabling Fast Roaming in the Deco App (MORE > Advanced > Fast Roaming).
• If you have a guest network, try setting it up with WPA2/WPA-PSK or no encryption and see if the plugs can connect.
• Make sure your Deco firmware is up to date.

Note:
• The IoT network and main network have different names but are still on the same local area network, so your devices can communicate with each other.
• If you do not see the IoT Network menu, ensure all Deco units are updated to the latest firmware. If it still doesn't appear, your model may not support this feature.

If you continue to have issues, please let us know any error messages you see or any specific behaviors from the Wemo plugs during setup, and we can provide further assistance.

Hi,

I don't see the backhaul feature in the Deco App->More, is it somewhere else?

Thanks,

Rob
