Uploads from hardwired connection occasionally fail
Hi,
I recently purchased and installed a TP-Link Deco X55 3-node setup. I have a hardwired connection from my iMac to the main node. Occasionally when I'm inputting data to a website, the data doesn't go through or the connection appears to drop temporarily. I remember reading somewhere that the first troubleshooting step is to do a factory reset and setup the device again. Since this is a 3-node, do I need to do a factory reset on all three nodes? Or just the main node?
Thanks,
Rob

Just as a test, should I make one of the other nodes the main node and see if the problem persists?
Thanks,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you are experiencing occasional connection drops on your Deco Mesh system and are considering performing a factory reset. You'd like to know whether you need to reset all three Deco units or just the main one.
Here’s how factory resetting works for Deco Mesh systems:
1. Resetting via the Deco app:
• Open the Deco app, tap the network map, and select the Deco unit you want to reset.
• Tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner and select "Remove". As long as the Deco unit is online, removing it from the Deco network will restore it to factory default settings.
• Note: If you remove (reset) the main Deco, it will restore to factory defaults and this action will also delete the entire Deco network. This means all three nodes will be removed from your network, and you will need to set up the whole system again from scratch.
2. Resetting using the button on the Deco device:
• There is a small RESET button at the bottom of each Deco device. Use a pin to press and hold it for 1 second to restore that unit to factory default settings. The LED will flash yellow (resetting), turn solid yellow (booting up), then flash blue (ready for setup).
Summary for your situation:
• If you want to reset the entire system and start fresh, you can either remove the main Deco via the app or use the reset button on each unit.
• If you only reset the main Deco, the whole Deco network will be deleted, and all nodes will need to be set up again.
• If you only want to reset a specific unit (for example, if only one node is having issues), you can reset just that unit using the reset button or by removing it from the app.
For more details, please refer to this FAQ: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1457/
Trouble resetting?
• You only need to briefly press the RESET button; a long press is not necessary. Try pressing the RESET button several times (brief press) until the LED indicator starts flashing yellow.
• The RESET function will not work when the Deco is showing a solid yellow light during startup. Please wait until the Deco has fully booted up before attempting to reset. If the Deco remains solid yellow after powering on, it may be bricked. In this case, please try firmware recovery or contact TP-Link Support.
If you have any further questions or need help with the setup process, feel free to ask!

@rob17 It could be a WAN/ISP side instability...

@rob17 Here's the current situation. On Friday a technician from my ISP came. He realized that the cable modem I had would not support the speed I am paying for. He also realized that the cable running from the pole to the house was very old. So they replaced the cable modem and cable between the house and the pole.
After that, on Friday afternoon, I did some testing and found that when I ran a speed test from my iMac (both hardwired and using WiFi to the Deco) the test would fail partway and say I didn't have an internet connection. The test ran fine from my iPhone and iPad, both on WiFi. It also ran fine from my iMac when connected to the WiFi provided by the cable modem.
On Saturday morning I did a complete reset of all three Deco nodes and created new networks. I have the main 2.4GHz/5GHz network and an IoT for Wemo smart plugs. Wemo appears to be down and I have not been able to reconnect the smart plugs. But my weather station connects to the IoT network just fine. I reran the speed test on both hardwired and WiFi on my iMac and it now seems to run without issues. However, I was in a chat earlier and, while connected to the Deco, I continually saw dropped connections. I disconnected the hardwire to the Deco and connected to the WiFi from the cable modem. That worked without any problems.
So, it looks like the Deco is dropping the connection when I try to upload data. I will try to do more testing tomorrow. I want to determine the scenarios under which the connections are being dropped. I'll update this thread more tomorrow.
Thanks,
Rob

Decided to contact support. They had me change the Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and Secondary to 8.8.4.4. They also had me change the cable between the Deco and the cable modem. I still need to do more testing tomorrow. I've been using a speed test app to test it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails...I think it's inconclusive. It doesn't fail or succeed reliably. Still need to figure out a reliable way to test it.

They also told me to disable Fast Roaming (which was already disabled) and Beamforming.

I am starting to experience more issues where images/videos don't download. So this appears to be more than an upload problem. And it's happening on my iPad which uses WiFi. Which means it's also not just a problem when hardwired.
I did contact support and they have supposedly escalated it to engineering. I will update here when I know more.

Yes please do. Won't lie to you this isn't the first time deco and apple products haven't gotten along.
