Model: Deco BE16000
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.0.6 Build 20240725 Rel. 33400

After replacing the Orbi 971/970 $1800 series with the BE16000 last week because Netgear could not fix the issue with mine just rebooting whenever it wanted to. I bought the BE16000.

I have spent the last 3 days setting it up, IP reservations I needed for certain devices, port forwarding I need for some devices, 1st satellite is hardwired to the router and the third is wireless to the second one. All seems to work well! EXCEPT, devices keep dropping off. Ring doorbells, iPhones, Watches, etc. doesn't matter what it is really. Some are rock solid 90% and never drop off. It shows them in the Offline clients list. They come and go! But if I go to that device it will come up, just slow because it has to reconnect? I have reserved their own IP to help, no joy.

Anyone have any idea why this does it? I like the BE16000 but this may be a deal breaker in the end. What a shame, I like it.

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that after switching to the Deco Mesh system, you are experiencing frequent disconnections where various devices (such as Ring doorbells, iPhones, and Watches) randomly drop off the network and appear as offline in the Deco app, even though some devices remain stable.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve these unstable connection issues:

For client devices dropping or going offline (while Deco units show green lights):

1. Check Device Settings in the Deco App:
   • In the client list section of the Deco app, select each affected device and ensure that 'Speed Limit' is disabled.
   • Make sure the 'Mesh' option is enabled and 'Connection Preference' is set to 'auto' (these are the default and recommended settings).

2. Review Parental Controls:
   • In the 'Parental Control' section of the Deco app, verify that your devices are not accidentally restricted by any parental control profiles.

3. Optimize Device Connection:
   • Ensure your mobile devices are connecting to the nearest Deco unit with a strong signal. If possible, connect to the 5GHz or 6GHz band, as these provide better performance and reliability than 2.4GHz (which is not recommended for high-speed or latency-sensitive devices).
   • Try turning Wi-Fi off and back on for the affected device to force a fresh connection.

4. For 2.4GHz IoT Devices (like Ring doorbells):
   • If you have a Wi-Fi 7 Deco model (such as BE16000), go to the Deco app: MORE > Wi-Fi Settings > Advanced, and set the 2.4GHz Channel Width to 20MHz to reduce interference.
   • Also, under More > Advanced > Wireless Network Mode, select 'High Capacity' mode to improve 2.4GHz performance and capacity.
   • Use the 'Network Optimization' tool in the Deco app to automatically optimize your Wi-Fi channels.
   • If you have many Deco units and IoT devices, try temporarily powering off some Deco units to see if this improves stability for your devices.

Additional Tips:
• Make sure all Deco units are placed in open areas (not inside cabinets or corners) for optimal coverage.
• If you have a satellite Deco connected via Ethernet, double-check the cable and connection.

If you have tried all the above steps and the issue persists, please contact TP-Link support and provide details about the troubleshooting steps you have already taken. This will help us assist you more efficiently.

I don’t even have some of the things mentioned here.

The only band I can control width is 5Ghz. I have no "speed limit" adjustment.

I don't use parental control. They are connected to the closet one.

When watching thru a spectrum analyzer I have it seems to me they drop off when the hidden networks want to talk on backhaul. When they are done, they come back online as they give the frequency space back to the named WiFi channel. This happens every time.

I just sat here and watched the entire 2.4 band go offline for about 10 seconds and come back on. The grey means they are offline.
