Model: Deco XE75 Pro
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.14 Build 20241223 Rel. 16551

When I have my iPhone connected to my deco WiFi I cannot send or receive RCS's messages.   As soon as I disconnect from the network I can send and receive RCS.   What is the fix for this?

Hi  @Ktown-Rob

Welcome to the community!

RCS messages not working can be a frustrating, yet unfortunately common occurrence in modern networks for multiple reasons. I'll go into a few, and hopefully one of them helps resolve this for you.

First, is your main Deco connected to another router via Ethernet? Or is it connected to a modem-only device? If it's connected to a router, this could introduce a "Double NAT" scenario, which can cause RCS anomalies. If this is the case, it would explain why you can send via RCS when you're not on the Deco network.

That said, there are a few things worth trying to see if it resolves this behavior for you:

2. Have you tried changing the DNS settings for your Deco? If not, I'd recommend giving it a shot. Sometimes, an ISP's default DNS may fail to resolve RCS servers correctly. For instructions on how to change your Deco's DNS settings, I recommend visiting our FAQ here: How to change DNS server settings on my Deco

3. Is your iPhone's "Private Wi-Fi Address" setting currently turned on? Sometimes this can cause anomalies with RCS over Wi-Fi. If you are comfortable with using your iPhone's real MAC address on your home network, you can usually toggle this setting on your iPhone by going to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the (i) icon next to your Deco's network name, then toggle Private Wi-Fi Address to "Off", (or "Fixed" if you see that option instead).

If either of these were the culprit, these changes should address the odd RCS over Wi-Fi behavior you're currently running into.

@Ryan I am having this issue with Deco BE68 units. In my scenario, all 3 of them are Ethernet-connected and are running in bridge mode behind a UniFi UCG Max router. RCS fails when I'm connected to the Deco system, but works totally fine when connected to eero pro 7 (also in bridge mode behind the same UCG Max router). iPhone is not in private WiFi address mode in either case.

@Ryan I am having the same issue. I'm not receiving RCS group texts when I'm connected to WiFi. I've tried all the troubleshooting: reset network settings on my iPhone, disabled "Private Wi-Fi Address" on my iPhone, changed DNS servers for my Deco, disabled IPv6 in the Deco app, enabled UPnP.
My BE67 Deco router is connected directly to my Verizon FIOS ONT.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for reaching out! I understand that you're not receiving RCS group texts on your iPhone when connected to your Deco BE67's WiFi network, and you've already tried several troubleshooting steps without success.

While RCS messaging and Wi-Fi calling use similar network protocols, here are some additional steps that may help resolve your issue:

1) Verify RCS service availability: Ensure that your carrier (Verizon) supports RCS messaging and that the RCS option is properly enabled in your iPhone's Messages settings.

2) Disable SIP ALG: Open the Deco app, go to More > Advanced > NAT Forwarding > SIP ALG, disable "SIP ALG" and save the settings. This can interfere with IP-based messaging services.

3) Configure IP reservation and port forwarding:
   • Go to More > Advanced > Address Reservation and add an address reservation entry for your iPhone
   • Go to More > Advanced > NAT Forwarding > Port Forwarding to configure port forwarding for UDP port 500 and port 4500

4) For more detailed guidance on similar connectivity issues, you can refer to this FAQ: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1259/

If these steps don't resolve the issue, please get back to me and I will give you the instructions on how to open up a ticket thanks.

  @Rkarming

i was able to fix my issue.  It was in the Nord VPN setting.   It's been a little bit but I think it was a pass through setting.  I was able to get on support with them and figured out through trial and error.  It's worked perfectly fine ever since
