R600X runs really hot. No clients either.
TP-LINK replaced my original RE600X with another after the original simply stopped working and wouldn't boot up. (FWIW I shouldn't have had to pay return shipping to TP.)
So I have the new one installed and connect to my TP-LINK router. It shows up in Tether just fine as "working well". BUT, it seems like it's running hot. I'm concerned that this may have been what caused the original one to fail. I never noticed it before but I was going to plug an extension cord into the other outlet when I noticed the warmth. We're in an air conditioned house and the extender is positioned near the tile floor which is very cool most of the time.
Also, the primary reason for the extender is to bring a stronger signal to our sprinkler timer in the garage and our Wyze doorbell cam. No network change but neither of those units are connected.

Hello @RealSkier ,
Welcome to our community.
Regarding the heat concern:
It's actually normal for TP-Link range extenders to generate heat during operation, as is typical for electronic devices. Based on TP-Link laboratory testing, our extenders can operate continuously or safety hazards at room temperatures (not device temperature) up to 40°C (104°F). The device surface may feel warmer than its surroundings, which is normal behavior.
Here are some tips to ensure proper ventilation and prevent overheating:
1. Do not place the extender on paper, cloth, fabrics, non-heat-resistant plastics, or any surface that does not allow for proper heat dissipation beneath the device.
2. Do not cover the extender with any objects, and avoid placing it in enclosed spaces. Place it in an open area.
3. Keep the extender away from direct heat sources (such as fireplaces or space heaters) and excessive sunlight.
Regarding your sprinkler timer and doorbell not connecting:
Since your RE600X was working fine before and these devices were previously connected, let's try these troubleshooting steps:
1. Try restarting both your router and the extender.
2. Ensure your router's Wi-Fi network is working properly by connecting other devices directly to it.
3. Verify that your extender is within range of the router and positioned optimally for signal strength.
4. Keep the extender away from interfering devices like metal objects, fish tanks, microwaves, and Bluetooth devices.
5. Make sure the extender's Wi-Fi name differs from your router's Wi-Fi name to help identify which network your devices are connecting to.
6. Try forgetting and re-adding the Wi-Fi network on your sprinkler timer and doorbell cam.
In addition, you mentioned 'plug an extension cord into the other outlet when I noticed the warmth.' Does this mean that after configuring the RE600X, it needs to be fixed in one position?
Would directly connecting it to the outlet or switching to a different outlet improve the situation?

Hello @RealSkier ,
Given that the device is running "very hot," immediately stop using the RE600X and unplug it from the outlet.
It seems that your network topology is:
[Wall] — [A two-prong outlet panel]
Left outlet: Your RE600X device is plugged in.
Right outlet: You tried to plug in an extension cord (power strip), and that's when you noticed the RE600X plugged in on the left was very hot.
For safety: Temporarily avoid using that wall outlet to power other devices. Please plug the RE600X into a completely different outlet in your home, on a different circuit, and see if it still overheats. If the temperature is normal after changing the outlet, the problem is likely with the original wall outlet or the circuit in that circuit, and you should have it checked by an electrician.
