Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.8 20190403 rel 43515

Just got a 3 pack of M9 Plus and trying to use ethernet backhaul.  Everything working fine when using wifi backhaul but i'm having issues.

When i connect a second M9 to my wired network, the network activity lights on my switches start going crazy.  within a few minutes the wired network starts to have trouble.   It reminds me of what i've seen when someone has connected both ends of an ethernet cable to the same switch.  I'm wondering if something similar is happening between the wifi and ethernet backhaul??

Do i need to power off all M9s before switching to wired backhaul?

Is there a way to tell if wifi or ethernet is being used for backhaul on each M9?

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

@sarman

Make sure you are connecting the Decos either via daisy chain or star topology.

When the Decos are wired together the Wi-Fi backhaul will be disabled. Have you tried wiring the Deco units directly to each other?

Hi Tony,

I have them wired in a star as shown in your picture.

Do i need to power cycle the Deco's when i switch to wired backhaul?

It would be very nice if on the individual Deco page of the app, it said the backhaul mode.   Lots of room under "Deco Health Check" for more info like this to be listed.

Thanks

No, once the Decos are wired together they will autoconfigure themselves.

Do you have other devices connected to the switch or just the Deco units?

What is the model of the switch that you have?

Things seem to be working now.  I switch which of my two 8 port gig switches the Decos were connected to and that seems to have solved the issue.

the "working" switch is a Netgear G5608v4

the "not working" switch is a D-Link GO-SW-8GE ver C3.

I'm not quite willing to switch things back around and see if it still fails right now so it's possible that it was something else.

I do have other things connected to the switches also.  Not sure if it made a difference but i disconnected everything and started with just the 3 Decos connected to the switch and let everything run for maybe 10-15 minutes before reconnected the rest of the network devices.

Thanks for the update.

Great to hear the devices are working now.

It would be best to leave it as is.
