Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.5 Build 20200109 rel.36848(5553)

Hi all;

I recently picked up the AX50 and I have been having a lot of trouble getting this to work full speed with my fibre connection.  Below are two screenshots... the first is using a wired connection to the AX50, and the 2nd is using a wired connection directly to my ISP modem.  I am using the AX50 in AP mode, and nothing I try will get me near the full potential of my connection.   Using wifi is even worse, even with a Asus AX3000 (PCE-AX58BT) wifi card.

Any advice is appreciated!

Do a factory reset on the router, and also re-upload the latest firmware on the router through the web browser.

Ok I did a factory reset, uploaded the new firmware again, then restored my settings and I get the same result as before. Is there anything else I can try?

Download the TP-Link Tether app, create a TP-Link ID account, and then connect to your AX50. Go to HomeCare on the bottom right, and if told bind the router to your cloud account. Now when you are looking at your HomeCare screen go to QoS, and on the bottom right select edit. For the upload put 1024, and for the download put 1024, and select Save.

Now try wired speed tests, make sure to use another Ethernet cable or move the cable from the router to the computer over to the modem instead and connect your computer just to verify that cable is also good.

Ok, I had to switch out of access point mode to do that, but even after putting in those settings and going back to AP mode - no change.

Is there a way to use this as an access point, but not actually put it into that mode?  Would that work?

@Ectosone

You should be able to by doing the following.

Disconnect the router from the main network, and connect to the AX50 directly.

Assign the router a local IP on the same subnet of the main router.

Disable the DHCP server, and save it.

Power down the router, and connect the Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports, and power the router on.

Now the router should act like a access point while in router mode, you could ignore the status page saying internet is disconnected as you will still have internet when connected via LAN or Wi-Fi.

I believe the HomeCare plays off of the WAN port so the QoS may not even be a factor.

Well, this morning I woke up to a VERY hot router with no internet.  I am guessing it overheated and fried itself.  SIGH.

Please get a hold of our support.

As long as the router was not subject to a power surge which sounds like it was not it should still be under warranty. The support agent will let you know if the replacement process can be started.

@Ectosone

Hi, for me disabling the QoS application priority and device priority did the trick. I didn't have to do a factory reset nor delete the Tether app.

Best wishes,

Peter

How do you completely disable QoS? I only see where you can pick one option like "streaming" "gaming" etc. I don't see anywhere where you can completely disable it (I logged into my AX50 via my laptop & Tether & don't see "disable" on either one for QoS). Thanks.

@The_Greenman Hi, look at the pictures. I hope they will help:

1 disabled application priority:

TP-Link

2. disabled device priority:

TP-Link

With these settings I don't have any speed/reliability issues with my connection and I am happy with the router
