Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.9 Build 20200708 rel.55037(4555)

Hi!

I recently bought AX50 router with WIFI 6 capabilities. I have problems with internet access that I do not know how to solve. Some wireless devices (phones and laptops) can connect to router but can not access internet ("connected but no internet"). On the other hand other devices works just fine. I tried several options including disabling OFDMA and ax standard (since phones and some laptops does not yet support WIFI 6), changing DNS server and factory reset (after reset I noticed that devices that were previously working now could not access internet while device that previously did not work now worked flawlessly - not a problem with wireless device?).

To summarize: some devices sometimes can connect but can't access internet

If it helps: I am using default values for DHCP server, WPA/WPA2-Personal security with mode auto encryption, channel width to auto, channel number to auto, USB sharing enabled, VPN server configured Antivirus  and firewall enabled and did not black listed any devices.

Any ideas are welcome.

One common problem when setting up a new router especially if the same SSID was used, is some devices have an issue with connection. Most times is fixed by deleting (forget) the network on the device and re-establishing it.

@darkoS

I would also make sure the 2.4G and 5G are named differently.

If it is not too much of a pain you could also try renaming your wireless network to something completely different.

Hi, @Tony and @ArcherC8 thanks for your answers. I tried both of your proposals. I have completely changed SSID (2,4G and 5G differently), passwords and forgot previous network connection on my devices. However, I could not get it working.

So I disabled all extra functions (VPN, USB sharing, all wifi 6 extras..) so I could figure out what is causing the problem. I found out something very interesting.

  1. I have configured WiFi to work with just 2,4 GHz with OFDMA turned off. Then I noticed devices could connect to router and had internet connection.
  2. Then I turned on OFMDA, rebooted router and tried again. Some devices were unable to connect to internet saying: Connected, no internet. I thought OFDMA migh be the problem so I disabled it again and rebooted router (it should have worked like in the number 1).

But the result was pretty weird, devices that could connect when OFDMA was enabled, now couldn't connect. To sum up: every time I reboot router (with or without changes in settings) random devices start or stop working. Tried every possible configuration and it is not working.

LAN connection always OK, it's just Wireless problem.

Any ideas? I am starting to give up on this router and thinking about returning it to a seller.

If it were me, I would reset the router to factory and reenter the minimum settings. Since your devices are not Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), I would turn off OFMDA and not use AX as an option in the WIFI settings. Power cycle the router. then retest. I would also power cycle any devices that did not work with OFMDA off as they may be still trying to communicate using OFMDA. May need to delete (forget) the network and reestablish it on the non-working devices. Also we have seen strange things reported when a different power adapter was used that did not come with the router.

@ArcherC8 Tried your advice. Factory reset router -> disabled OFDMA and ax protocol -> power cylce router -> forgot all saved connection on wireless devices and power cyle them.

Unfortunatly it got even worse :D.  Now all wireless devicess can not access network.

On the other hand LAN works just fine.

Any other advices?

Sounds like something is wrong with the router to me. If it were me, I would start the return process.
