Solid red light on Deco S4 but internet is working
I have set up 3 Deco S4 units yesterday. All of them are in Access Point mode and connected to the main switch via ethernet cable.
The Deco units have static IP addresses on my DHCP subnet, their gateway and DNS pointing to 0.0.0.0 (they have no access to the internet)
All of the Deco units' light are solid red, my deco app no longer recognises them as online... However, my wifi network and my internet are working fine, as quick as they should be and I have no issue with my connection. I am happy with their performance.
So, does it mean, the Deco units need to be able to reach an external address for some reason? If that is the case, why? Is there a way to make them work locally only and get my Deco app to recognise them again? If they need a constant connection to any cloud service, that is a dealbreaker for me.
Thank you

The app will allow access locally as long as you are on the network created by the Deco, but for online check unfortuently now. The system was built around the cloud so it is not possible to cricumvent the check or online access. If you allow UDP port 53 to the deco that should solve the issue.

DNS queries use port 53. You might open that just as an experiment to see if the red light goes off. Then you can make a decision as to whether to close it or to leave it open.
My DNS server shows that my Deco (M9 plus) does queries about every two minutes, trying one of these each time: a.root-servers.net, amazon.com, facebook.com, youtube.com, netflix.com, reddit.com. I don't see it querying tplink's cloud.
