Model: Archer A54
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version:

Have a fiber modem connected to a wifi router. Need to extend the reach of this network so we ran two cat5 cables to external buildings, one is 120' away, the other is 250' away. Installed Archer A fifty four router in one building and tried to set it up as Access Point to existing network. Plugged cable into wan port and turned on router. Lights came on. Quick setup guide shows unit has 4 lef lights, but it actually has 5. The one not shown in guide appears as a desktop computer. First 4 leds light up including this one, but the one shown in user guide to indicate internet access does not.
i changed setup to be a range extender and this time was able to tell the new router the name of the network to extend. However the internet led still does not light up.

all we want to do is use the wired connection and the new router to extend the reach of the existing network.

please help

Let's first confirm which LEDs are lit:

If the Internet light, which can be best described as looking like the planet Saturn is not lighting up and there is an ethernet cable connected to it it would indicate a bad Ethernet port or cable.  You can test if its the cable by plugging in one of the ethernet cords connect to the LAN, ports 1-4, to the WAN and seeing if it lights up.  You would use one of these cables because the ethernet light is lit indicating they are good and working.  If doing this the Internet light does light up Orange, then we know the cable connected to the port originally is bad or the port on the other side of the cable is bad.   You can rule out the cable by doing a similar test.  Since this would be one of the long cables that are more difficult to plug both ends in the router, you could take a PC that as an ethernet card that you know works and plug it in at the other end.  If the Internet port lights up Orange during this test the issue would be the port on the host router or switch.    If it doesn't then this log cable is bad or possibly incorrectly terminated.

@Carl We got the issue with connectivity resolved. We can access the internet thru WIFI at the A54/AC1200 location. Fiber modem and router are located about 120' away.

Another problem was discovered. We have a printer on the house end that we can print to via wifi locally with no trouble. But cannot even see said printer on the AC1200 end.

Why?

The AC1200 is in AP and on the far end right?

@Carl yes. From the outside fiber it connects to fiber modem, then short cat6 to vendor provided router with 5 ethernet ports and wifi. From that router is a 120' long ethernet cable to the AC1200. From there the laptop can connect via the ac1200 wifi to the internet. But cannot see the printer.

The name of the home net is frogmorton. The name seen on the far end is TP-Link_2747

Is the printer connected to the AC1200 or the Vendor router?  To confirm the AC1200 is in AP mode correct?  I just want to rule out a possible Double NAT issue.

@Carl printer connects via wifi to the fiber side router. And ac1200 is in ap mode

Okay, that is good.  That means we aren't or shouldn't be dealing with different subnets.  The AC1200 in AP mode would be getting its IP addresses from the Fiber Gateway.  Since all routing features are disabled on the AC1200 I would suggest looking into the Fiber Gateway settings and making sure there is Device isolation or traffic blocking the clients on the AC1200 from accessing the printer.
