Model: Archer A8
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.13.2 Build 230824 Rel.74702n(5553)

Since updating the firmware version, the router won't let me update the Primary DNS server in "Network -> Internet" page.

I get the following error "Invalid Primary DNS Server. Please enter another one."

I am trying to use pihole server as the local DNS server.

  @Kahakqnj I disabled the DHCP server on the router and using the one on pihole in raspberrypi.

Have you tried putting in something other than 0.0.0.0 in the secondary dns field?

  @eousphoros I tried blank as well. The problem is always that primary DNS field is not valid.

It works fine if I put 8.8.8.8 in the primary field. Seems to not like local IPs.

This obviously looks like a bug introduced in the new firmware update. Can someone acknowledge or add to your bug fixes?

Meanwhile, which version can I safely go back to for this router?

What subnet mask are you using for your local lan? Is 192.168.0.99 a valid ip address within that mask? Have you tried assigning a lower ip address like 192.168.0.2? Don't have your specific device but do specify four local dns resolvers (2 ipv4 and 2 ipv6, 192.168.0.2 and .3 and c0de:d00d and dead:beef) successfully through the ui on my device. It's too bad the error message isn't more specific in what exactly is invalid about that address. Oh there isn't some funky unicode thing going on here is there? Using plain ascii for that input?

  @eousphoros

You can see the subnet mask in the "Internet" page on first post

LAN settings:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

I have tried different numbers from 192.168.0.1 through 101, they all throw the error alert.

This used to work in the previous firmware version, I made the mistake of upgrading it and now have this problem.

  @knotmine Last thought I have, is your primary dns ip address allocated through the dynamic ip pool / reserved ip or is it statically configured?

  @eousphoros It's a reserved IP.  (I changed it back to 192.168.0.100, so it looks different from original screenshot)

Still, only reaches out to local DNS intermittently.

  @Kahakqnj

This message usually appears if you try to put a private IP address for a DNS server in router Internet settings.

When using Pi hole it's IP address should be set in the DHCP settings as a primary DNS, as posted in post #8.
