Firmware Version: 1.2.1 Build 20220714 rel.75573(5553)

My Archer A7 router drops internet for a few seconds a few times per day. It's pretty disruptive when it happens. The router log says has lines like "teardown and release" shortly followed by "send dhcp release ip 170.x.x.x" for each occurrence.

Is there any fix available for this issue? Any setting I can turn off or something? As far as I can tell I'm on the most recent firmware version. I've found a few threads on this topic but they didn't shed much light. It's pretty disruptive during the workday when I need a stable internet connection.

A couple of the threads have comments asking for this info:

If any of you still encounters the "Teardown and Release" issue, please confirm some basic information as below:

1. Who is your ISP, and what is the WAN connection type on the A7/C7, Dynamic IP or PPPoE?
   - ISP: Hotwire Communications
   - WAN connection type: Dynamic IP


2. Check and ensure the internet line or ISP modem is stable, bypassing the TP-Link router. Connect the PC directly to the ISP modem (or internet cable from wall), test and monitor the internet connectivity, ensure you have a stable connection.

    - Tried it, had no issues when the router is cut out of the picture by directly connecting my laptop to the ISP modem

It's due to a TP-Link firmware bug. TP-Link support told me *my* device is defective and that it needs to be replaced (but if course, they won't replace it since it's out of warranty), but actually all such devices using their firmware are susceptible to this issue. TP-Link produces known-defective firmware (yes, software bugs happen, but as linked in my original post, they've known about this issue for years and haven't actually managed to fix it - despite repeatedly saying they have!). So anyway, a replacement product wouldn't be of much use since it'd still have their same buggy firmware on it.

Anyway, I fixed my router by installing OpenWrt firmware in place of TP-Link's broken firmware, and the issue is gone. The instructions to do so are very straightforward:
