Deco BE95 / BE33000 - 3 month heavy use, then this morning solid RED LED on both mesh units
i purchased my DECO BE95 / BE33000 (2 node mesh) 3 months ago ... i work out of the home/office and am in IT. I've used it heavily over the past 3 months without any issues/drops/etc.
Last night, both my DECO BE95 MESH NODES (main and upstairs) LED went to SOLID RED.
My ISP modem was solid green / full connectivity. No issues / problems with the ISP.
I thought the DECO BE95's might be firmware updating so i waited for 30 minutes ... no change after 30 minutes, still SOLID RED.
i unplugged the MAIN DECO BE95 for 10 seconds ... plugged it back in ... green initially then solid red after a couple minutes.
i recycled my ISP modem ... after 5 minutes, the modem came back online as solid green but my DECO BE95's were still SOLID RED.
i decided to unplug everything ... modem, deco's ... switch ... everything ... waited for 30 minutes ...then plugged back in the MODEM ... it came up fine after 5 minutes ... then my switch (of course, no issues/problems with it) ... then my DECO MAIN ... it came up solid green. i waited for 10 more minutes and powered on my 2nd DECO BE95 ... it came up solid green.
i made no changes to any hardware/software/setup, other than powering the units off and back on.
TP-LINK documenation has troubleshooting on SOLID RED ... pointing to an issue between the BE95 and the MODEM but i'm not sure where to look at this point? i mean, w/the BE95 being solid red, i wasn't able to login to see any logfiles or issues ... i was at the mercy of power off ... plug back in ... and pray

@TJFDenver I've had the same issue with my BE95's. The only fix seemed to be setting DNS to automatic. They wouldn't work with any other settings, always going back to solid red except when DNS was set to automatic.
I don't know if it's hardware or software; they haven't had a firmware update in 5+ months and no one at TP-Link will say if they ever will be updated.

WILL TP-LINK EMPLOYEES PLEASE READ AND RESPOND?
AN FCC complaint will be filed against TP-Link if there is no response, per request of the FCC rep I talked to yesterday about this.

A few questions for you.
- What hardware version are your BE95s?
- What Firmware file is currently installed?
- What model is your Modem, and is its Gateway (Modem/Router Combo)?
- How is your network set up?
- Modem - Switch - Deco - Remote Decos
- Modem - Deco - Switch - Remote Decos
- What mode are you in Deco?

1. Version 1.60
2. Latest firmware V1.6_1.0.20 Build 20240601
3. Modem is a BGW320-505 combo unit. We have AT&T fiber with no other way to connect.
4. Connection is BGW320-505 to BE95 to 2nd BE95.
5. Router mode in Deco. BGW320-505 is in Passthrough mode with WiFi off.
Thanks for the help Carl. Others are having similar issues and have mentioned them in the TP-Link Reddit.
You're the first to help (even called TP-Link tech support and they weren't helpful at all), and I thank you for that.

Also wanted to mention that a Reddit user claimed to be using a beta firmware for the BE95, and sent a (supposed) link to the download.
I did NOT click on the link or get the download because I don't know the user nor do I know if the link/download are legit.
I would be interested in trying the beta, and will only get it from links provided by TP-Link.

Hello Richard, Thank you for responding.
As you probably deduced the questions were to identify any potential concerns with how the hardware was configured and set up. For example, if you are using a switch, having it between a modem and router can potentially be a source of concern. Additionally, if your modem is a combo device but both the modem and Deco are acting as a router, then Double NAT would be at play, and that could result in additional concerns, including DNS-related ones. So, I always like to rule such things out, and these few questions give me an idea of what I am working with and how I should proceed.
Since your modem is configured in passthrough and the Wi-Fi is disabled, plus you have the network map physically set up properly, I know that setup, configuration, and Double NAT are not a problem.
My Team and I discussed the potential beta firmware in our meeting this morning. I wanted to wait to get a response from you and the OP before I engaged with Engineering about this potential Beta Firmware and why my team was virtually in the dark about it. I would like to wait for the OP to respond as well so I have as much information as possible to give to Engineering.

@Carl Hi Carl and thanks for responding back.
I was glad to answer your questions. Some additional info:
1. Disabling Security+ didn't help, but I wanted to see if it was somehow interfering with DNS communication.
2. Firewall and packet inspection on the gateway are both disabled.
3. Nokia, who makes the BGW320-505 gateway, did a remote diagnostic and didn't see anything wrong hardware or firmware wise in the gateway.
4. AT&T replaced the drop cable between the gateway and the main cable outside, in case that was the issue, but it wasn't.
I do tech support for a living, and wanted to pass on what else I'd tried to resolve the issue, and so not sure if it's hardware or software.
Hopefully OP responds, and I'm definitely interested in trying the beta. Let me know how else I can help and try the beta.
Richard

Thank you. That is extremely helpful. Being in the field, I am sure you understand we are at the mercy of what is or isn't provided, so these details are extremely helpful. I will give the OP the night to respond, and if I don't see anything in the morning, I will respond to engineering with just the information you provided. The more i can provide the better.

@Carl you're most welcome.
Thank you for helping to try and figure out this odd behavior! It's greatly appreciated.
Richard.

What I have available is a debug firmware. Debug firmwares are a specific type of Beta firmware that includes a debugging function that allows our engineers to better diagnose and address concerns. This firmware is based on the recent release of the BE85 v2 and includes several new features and fixes. Just note that with it being a Beta firmware, stability and functionality cannot be guaranteed as Beta firmware should be considered a work in progress. If you would like to partake, you can use this link
Please feel free to feedback on your experience both here and/or on our subreddit and if you have any questions please Tag me, or any of our other admins and we will be happy to help.
