Model: TL-WR802N
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 3.17 v0348.0 Build 200421 Rel.38950n

I have a TL-WR802N that I'm trying to configure. I want people to be able to connect to a device on the local network with their phones/tablets via wifi. I also don't want people to have to manually set an IP address. When in AP mode, I can connect to the device (192.168.1.1) if and only if I set my phone's IP address to 192.168.x. AP mode has a DHCP server, but it only assigns IP addresses to devices on the local network, not on the wireless side.

If I put the WR802N in wireless router mode, DHCP works as expected and will assign IP addresses to my phone/tablet in the specified range. But when I try to ping 192.168.1.1 I get Destination Host Unreachable. Admittedly I don't know much about networking, but it seems like the router is separating the LAN network from the WLAN network? I tried static route lists, virtual server, and DMZ, but no luck on any of the above. I assume I'm doing something wrong in the routing or forwarding.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Try range extender mode.

What does the rest of your network look like?

Pretty much nothing. Device at 192.168.1.1 plugged into the ethernet port of the WR802N. Connected to the wireless router from my computer/phone at different times. Most of my testing has been with my computer, so the only network connection (wireless or hard wired) is to the router.

If I can get this working, I'll change the ethernet port of the router to connect to an unmanaged switch and add a few other devices, but trying to go one step at a time.

I'm flabbergasted! I was able to convince myself that each of the other modes was the right one, but I thought for sure range extender wasn't the answer. It's working now though! Thank you!
